This guide starts where that one stops. It is about the five brands and their model numbers: how to read a part number, what each brand actually publishes, and where their published specifications are not comparable even when they look it.

Reading a model number
The most useful page in this guide, and the one that stops a costly mistake.
Every one of these brands encodes capacity and travel into the part number. Three of them put travel first. One puts capacity first. One uses a metric-derived capacity code. The result is that two part numbers can look structurally identical and describe different machines.

On the XZ floor-height family the first digits are the platform width in inches, not the travel. The published spec table makes this plain: in a designation such as XZ44-20, the 44 is a 44 in. platform width and the 20 is 2,000 lb. Apply the travel-first rule to an XZ model and you will read it wrong. Check which family you are looking at before decoding.
Bishamon's capacity codes are metric
The 22K, 44K and 66K in a Bishamon part number are 2,200, 4,400 and 6,600 lb, which are one, two and three metric tonnes converted. That is why the capacities look like odd numbers next to everyone else's round 2,000 and 4,000. When you are comparing a Bishamon against a Presto, the Bishamon is the slightly larger machine at each step, not the slightly smaller one.

The -DL models carry capacity codes like 0064, 0096 and 0128, giving 6,400, 9,600 and 12,800 lb. Autoquip publishes the double long as two sets of scissor mechanisms end to end under one platform, for higher capacity, improved load stability and added side load rating. Those capacities are genuine, so do not round them to 6,000 or 10,000 when comparing quotes.

Between 2,000 and 6,000 lb all five brands compete directly, which is where most buyers are and where the model number confusion in Section Two actually bites. Above that the field narrows but does not close: Autoquip reaches 24,000 lb, Presto publishes heavy-duty and dual scissor series to 12,000 lb, and Lift Products publishes an extra-capacity range to 10,000 lb. At the light end, Presto, Autoquip and Bishamon all publish models at or below 1,000 lb. If your load sits near a boundary, ask rather than assuming a brand does not go there.
Duty cycle, the spec nobody states the same way
The specification that decides whether the lift survives the application.
Capacity tells you whether the lift can raise the load once. Duty cycle tells you whether it can do it all day, every day, for years. It is the most commonly ignored specification in this category and the most common cause of a lift that fails early, because the motor is the part that wears and the motor is sized to a duty assumption.
You cannot put these figures in a column and compare them directly. Two brands publish cycles per year, one publishes minutes of run time per hour, and one gives cycles per hour buried in a troubleshooting table. Converting between them requires assumptions about how many hours a day the station runs, so treat the table below as four separate statements rather than a ranking.

Autoquip's published description of its intermittent cycle is internally puzzling: a single sentence gives one full lift cycle per two-minute period, with the motor running two minutes and resting eight. Two minutes running plus eight resting is a ten-minute period, not a two-minute one. If duty is close to the limit for your application, get the rating confirmed in writing for the specific model rather than working from the published summary.
Intermittent against continuous
Autoquip publishes the clearest description of the distinction. Intermittent duty lifts are for applications with defined cycles and adequate rest between them: manual workstations, maintenance platforms, work where cycle frequency is moderate and predictable. Continuous duty lifts are engineered for sustained high-frequency operation, such as production lines and automated material handling where the lift is part of a throughput process. Above-normal duty is published as typically requiring supplemental design features to protect serviceable life and warranty coverage.
Nearly everything in this catalog is intermittent duty. Lift Products states it outright and specifies an intermittent duty motor. That is the correct and economical choice for a workstation where an operator raises a pallet, works on it, and lowers it. It is the wrong choice for a lift cycling under a conveyor discharge.
Count the cycles the station will actually run in an hour at its busiest, not its average. If the answer is under about ten, any intermittent-duty lift here will cope. If it is fifteen or more, you are at or past the published limit for at least two of these brands and you should be asking about a continuous-duty or above-normal-duty build. If the lift is part of an automated line, assume continuous duty and price it accordingly.
Power and voltage
A real constraint, and the brands differ in how easily you can find the answer.
What power is available at the station is often already fixed by the building, which makes voltage an early constraint rather than a late option. Most of these brands publish something; what varies is how easy it is to find and whether the option is priced.

Because Bishamon publishes each voltage as its own part number with its own price, you can see the cost of the electrical option before you ask. Elsewhere the information exists but is harder to reach, sometimes only in a service manual, and the price of the option is not published. That does not mean the other brands cannot supply it, only that you have to ask.
Non-electric options
Where power is genuinely unavailable, or where hydraulic oil near the product is a problem, several formats avoid electricity entirely.
Pneumatic units have a second argument beyond power availability: no hydraulic reservoir means no possibility of an oil leak onto the product. In food, pharmaceutical and clean assembly work that is often the deciding factor rather than the electricity.
Travel and capacity by brand
Where each range actually lands, and what to ask for outside it.
Travel and capacity trade against each other within any one scissor geometry. Pushing both up means a bigger machine, a double scissor, or a different series.

It is tempting to read that table as heavier meaning taller when collapsed, but the main driver is travel. Autoquip publishes the same 2,500 lb capacity at 6.5 in. lowered on a 24 in. travel model and 8 in. lowered on a 60 in. travel model, and publishes 4,000, 6,400 and 9,600 lb double long models all at 6.5 in. lowered on 24 in. of travel. If you need a low collapsed height, look first at how much travel you are asking for, then at the low profile and floor level formats in Section Eight.
Going higher than a single scissor reaches
Around 60 in. of travel a single scissor stage runs out, and the published routes above that are more numerous than they first appear. Presto's double scissor DXS series reaches 86 in. raised. Autoquip's Compact series is published to 94 in. raised, and its Series 35 Triple High is published with travel from 72 to 180 in. at capacities of 1,500 to 6,000 lb. Lift Products publishes a multi-stage range with 48 to 120 in. of travel, reaching 136 in. raised. Autoquip's double long models are a different thing again, adding capacity and stability rather than height.
Platform size and wide base families
A pallet on a narrow table is a stability problem, not a fit problem.
Published platforms run from 16 by 24 in. at the small end up past 80 in. wide and 180 in. long on the largest double long models. The question is not only whether the load fits but whether the base underneath is wide enough to keep it stable, which is why several brands publish separate wide base families rather than just a bigger top.

Capacity on a scissor lift assumes the load sits over the centre of the platform. Extend the platform and the same load applied near an edge produces a much larger moment on the scissor. The category guide sets out the derating rule in detail. The short version for this guide: a wide base family is not the same as an oversized platform on a standard base, and if you are putting a pallet crosswise on a long table you need the derated figure, not the headline one.
Presto publishes an oversized platform as a priced option on some series, which is the cheaper route when the load is bulky but light. Where the load is bulky and heavy, the wide base family is the correct answer and the price difference reflects a genuinely different machine underneath.
Low profile, floor level and the pit question
Three answers to the same problem, at three price points.
If a pallet jack has to get onto the lift, collapsed height is the whole specification. There are three published routes and they are not interchangeable.
Floor level instead of a pit
A pit is the traditional answer to getting a lift flush with the floor, and it is expensive, permanent and a maintenance liability. The zero ground level model is listed here as eliminating the need for ramps, pits or costly floor modifications. On a leased building, or anywhere the layout might change, avoiding the pit is usually the deciding argument regardless of cost.
Lift Products publishes U-Lift and E-Lift variants. The U-shaped platform lets a pallet jack straddle the lift rather than drive onto a solid deck, which is how you get a very low entry height without a ramp. It only works with pallets, so if the station also handles containers or loose product on a solid deck, that is the wrong format.
Pit installation has not gone away as an option. Presto publishes that its floor-height lifts can be configured for use in a pit, which allows the platform to sit flush with the floor when not in use to minimise obstructions. If a genuinely flush installation is what you need, ask about it rather than assuming the floor-level format is the only route.
Positioners: spring or air
Touched on in the category guide, worked through properly here.
A self-levelling pallet positioner keeps the top of a stack at a constant working height as cases are added or removed, without anyone pressing a button. It is a different machine from a lift table with different economics, and the actuation choice is essentially between springs and air.
No power, no air
Spring
Presto P3-Spring and Lift Products LPSL-44. Heavy springs carry the load, with a dampener to stop bounce. Nothing to plumb and nothing to wire.
The catch: a spring unit is tuned to a load range by spring count. Lift Products publishes that you remove one or two springs for lighter loads. Change the product weight and the unit has to be retuned.
Shop air
Pneumatic
Presto P3-AA and AccuLoad, Bishamon EZ-Loader family, Lift Products air level loader, Blue Giant PL4. An air bag or captive air system carries the load.
The advantage: it handles loads that vary substantially in weight without retuning, and there is no hydraulic oil. Bishamon publishes that its captive air system eliminates cumbersome mechanical springs and gives smooth, controlled platform movement.
Check before ordering
The E variant
An EZ Loader-E is listed here as an electric version at 4,000 lb. Bishamon publishes the EZ Loader family under a single self-contained pneumatic description without a separate electric specification.
What to do: if you need a positioner that runs on mains power rather than shop air, confirm the actuation in writing before ordering rather than reading it from the model suffix.
The question that decides this is how much the product weight varies. One product at one case weight is a spring application. A station that handles several products at different case weights is an air or electric application, because a spring tuned for one will be wrong for the others and nobody is going to remove springs between runs.
Note that spring is not automatically the cheapest. On the published Presto pair the spring model lists above the airbag model, so if price is driving the decision, compare the actual quotes rather than assuming the simpler mechanism costs less.

Several pneumatic positioners publish a self-levelling range and a separate maximum capacity, and they are different things. The self-levelling range is the band across which the unit will actually adjust itself. The maximum is what it will hold safely. A load above the self-levelling range sits on a unit that has stopped self-levelling, which is a lift table with no controls.
Turntables, tilt and rotation
Removing the walk around the pallet, and the reach into the bottom of the bin.
Rotation
An operator building or breaking down a pallet walks around it, or reaches across it. Both cost time and both are how people hurt their backs. Rotation fixes it, and there are two published approaches.
- Integrated lift and rotate. Bishamon's
TTmodels put a turntable top on the Alpha lift, published as a 43 in. round or 44 by 44, 44 by 48 and 48 by 48 in. square. Lift Products Roto-Max and Lift-N-Spin do the same on their platforms. One machine, one part number. - Floor turntables. Presto and Bishamon publish standalone floor turntables to around 4,000 to 4,500 lb. No lift, just rotation, at a much lower price.
Presto publishes a portable floor turntable. That is a genuinely useful thing on a project: put it in the station for a week and see whether operators actually use the rotation before specifying it into a run of lifts. Rotation changes how people work, and not every station benefits.
Tilt
Tilting brings the contents of a bin or container into the operator's reach zone, so the picking task happens without bending into the bottom of the box. Presto publishes stationary container tilters in the SRT series at 2,000 and 4,000 lb, and a floor level lift-tilt combination. Lift Products publishes mobile tilters. Autoquip lists tilt as a customisation on Series 35 rather than a catalog model.
The SRT tilters publish a tilt angle of 89 degrees and position the container at any angle from 0 to 89 degrees, so the reach into the container is a function of where you stop rather than a fixed dump position. Have the container dimensions ready when you ask, because the container geometry decides what angle actually puts the contents in reach.
Portable and mobile lifts
When the lift needs to go to the work.
A mobile scissor lift cart combines a lift table with a wheeled base, so one machine both transports and positions. Published options run from manual hand-pump carts through to battery powered units with powered travel.

Mobile carts trade capacity and travel for mobility. Where a stationary table in this catalog reaches 24,000 lb, the carts here mostly sit at 2,000 lb and below. If the load is heavy, a stationary lift plus a pallet truck is usually both cheaper and more capable than a mobile lift that can do neither job well. Safety features by brand
Which protections are standard, which are priced options, and who publishes what.
The safety features on a scissor lift address two different hazards: something falling or descending onto a person, and something trapping a person between the scissor arms. Different brands solve them differently, and some of these are options rather than standard equipment.

A maintenance prop is the difference between a routine service and a fatality. Several brands supply one integral to the machine; where it is a separate item, order it with the lift and fix it to the machine so it cannot be borrowed and lost. The prop is useless in a cupboard on the other side of the building, which is where they end up.
The upper travel limit switch is standard on some models and a priced option on others. Toe guards and skirting are options across the board. Two lifts that look equivalent on capacity and travel can differ substantially once the safety items are matched, so compare quotes on the full configuration rather than the base model.
Standards, and who cites what
Coverage is very uneven, and that is worth knowing.
The governing standard for this equipment is ANSI MH29.1, Safety Requirements for Industrial Scissors Lifts, which applies to industrial scissors lifts raised and lowered by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical actuation. Our category guide covers what it requires. What this section adds is which brands actually cite it.

A manufacturer that does not list standards on its website may still build to them. What the difference means practically is that if your procurement process requires documented conformance, you will get it more easily from the brands that already publish it, and you should ask for it in writing from the ones that do not. Ask before ordering, not after.
Servicing a lift safely
The regulation that applies, cited by number.
A scissor lift stores energy hydraulically and holds a load overhead. Servicing one is exactly the situation the lockout/tagout standard exists for.
"This standard covers the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment in which the unexpected energization or start up of the machines or equipment, or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees."
The purpose paragraph, at 1910.147(a)(3)(i), requires employers to establish a program and use procedures for affixing lockout or tagout devices to energy isolating devices, and to otherwise disable equipment to prevent unexpected energization, start-up or release of stored energy.
Two things follow for a lift table. First, hydraulic pressure is stored energy, so simply switching the power off is not isolation. Second, the platform itself is a suspended load. The published sequence across these manufacturers runs: remove the load, lower the platform fully, secure the maintenance device, relieve the pressure, disable the controls, disconnect the power.
A hose, a seal or a valve can fail at any time, and a platform coming down on someone underneath it is not survivable. That is what the maintenance prop in Section Twelve is for, and it is why it needs to be attached to the machine rather than stored elsewhere. If a lift arrives without one, stop and get one before it goes into service.
Note also that 1910.147(a)(2)(ii) extends the standard into normal production operations where an employee has to remove or bypass a guard, or place part of their body into a danger zone. Clearing a jam under a raised platform is exactly that situation.
Common and costly mistakes
Twelve things that go wrong on scissor lift orders.
- Reading two brands' part numbers the same way. Autoquip, Presto and Blue Giant put travel first. Lift Products puts capacity first. Bishamon uses a metric capacity code. Decode before you compare.
- Ignoring duty cycle. It is the specification that decides whether the lift lasts. Count cycles per hour at the busiest time, not the average.
- Assuming intermittent duty will cope with a line. Nearly everything in this catalog is intermittent duty. A lift cycling under a conveyor discharge needs a different conversation.
- Leaving voltage until the end. Only one brand publishes voltage options as priced part numbers. Raise it at the start, because it can change which brand fits.
- Specifying travel without checking lowered height. Collapsed height rises with travel more than with capacity. Asking for long travel and a very low collapsed height is what pushes projects toward low profile or floor level formats.
- Buying an oversized platform instead of a wide base. A bigger top on a standard base derates the capacity. If the load is both bulky and heavy, buy the wide base family.
- Forgetting the load rolls on. A load rolled onto a platform imposes more than the same load set down on it. The category guide covers the margin to allow.
- Choosing a spring positioner for a variable product. Spring units are tuned by spring count to a load range. Several products at several weights is an air or electric application.
- Reading only the maximum capacity on an air positioner. The self-levelling range and the maximum capacity are different numbers. Above the self-levelling range it stops levelling.
- Treating safety items as standard. Toe guards, skirting and upper limit switches are options on several models. Compare quotes on matched configurations.
- Ordering without a maintenance prop, or storing it away from the lift. Fix it to the machine.
- Servicing on hydraulics alone. Hydraulic pressure is stored energy under 1910.147. Lower it, prop it, relieve pressure, disable controls, disconnect power.

How do I read a scissor lift model number?
It depends on the brand, and that is the problem. Autoquip runs travel then capacity, so S35-024-0025 is 24 inches of travel at 2,500 pounds. Presto and Blue Giant also run travel first, so XL36-50 is 36 inches at 5,000 pounds and LFT36-40-4872 is 36 inches at 4,000 pounds on a 48 by 72 inch platform. Lift Products reverses it: LPT-045-36 is 4,500 pounds with 36 inches of travel. Bishamon uses a metric-derived capacity code, so L44K is 4,400 pounds, or two tonnes.
Why are Bishamon capacities odd numbers like 2,200 and 6,600?
They are metric. 2,200, 4,400 and 6,600 pounds are one, two and three tonnes converted. That means at each step up, the Bishamon is slightly larger than the round 2,000 or 6,000 pound machine it sits next to, not slightly smaller. Worth knowing when a load is close to a capacity boundary.
What is duty cycle and why does it matter?
Duty cycle is how often the lift can run without overheating the motor. It is the specification that determines whether a lift survives its application, and it is easy to miss because capacity gets all the attention. Published figures vary in units: Autoquip states 100,000 cycles per year on an intermittent cycle, Bishamon rates the Alpha at 50,000 cycles per year for the 2,200 and 4,400 pound models and 35,000 for the 6,600 pound model, Lift Products publishes 15 minutes of run time per hour, and Presto notes 15 cycles per hour as the point where overheating becomes a problem. Blue Giant publishes nothing.
How many cycles per hour can I run?
Count what the station will actually do at its busiest hour, not its average. Under about ten cycles an hour, any intermittent-duty lift here should cope. At fifteen or more you are at or past the published limit for at least two of these brands and should be asking about a continuous-duty or above-normal-duty build. If the lift is part of an automated line rather than an operator's workstation, assume continuous duty.
Which brand should I buy?
Above 6,000 pounds the field narrows but does not close. Autoquip reaches 24,000 pounds, Presto publishes heavy-duty and dual scissor series to 12,000 pounds, and Lift Products publishes an extra-capacity range to 10,000 pounds. If you need documented electrical options, Bishamon publishes 115V, 230V single and three phase and 480V as separate priced part numbers. If you need the widest choice of formats, including foot pump, hand pump, air and floor level, Presto has the broadest catalog. If low profile or floor level is the requirement, Lift Products and Blue Giant both publish strong options. Between 2,000 and 6,000 pounds all five compete directly.
What is the difference between low profile and floor level?
Collapsed height, and whether you need a ramp. Standard lifts sit at 5 to 12.5 inches lowered and are loaded by fork truck or over a ramp. Low profile sits at roughly 2.9 to 5 inches and takes a pallet jack over a short ramp. Floor level sits at 3/8 to 3-1/8 inches and a pallet jack rolls straight on with no ramp at all. Floor level models are published as the alternative where an underground pit is not feasible.
Should I get a spring or an air pallet positioner?
It depends on how much your product weight varies. A spring positioner is tuned to a load range by the number of springs fitted, and Lift Products publishes that you remove one or two springs for lighter loads. That is fine for one product at one case weight. If the station handles several products at different weights, specify air or electric, because nobody will retune springs between runs. Air also avoids hydraulic oil entirely, which matters in food and clean assembly work. Do not assume spring is the cheaper option: on the published Presto pair the spring model lists above the airbag model.
Can I get a lift table without electricity?
Yes, several ways. Foot pump and hydraulic hand pump models are published by Presto. Pneumatic units running on shop air are published by Presto, Bishamon, Lift Products and Blue Giant. Spring positioners need neither power nor air. Battery powered mobile carts are published by several brands. Pneumatic has a second advantage beyond power availability: no hydraulic reservoir means no possibility of an oil leak onto product.
What safety features should I insist on?
A maintenance prop or safety bar, without exception, and fixed to the machine rather than stored elsewhere. A velocity fuse or flow control valve to prevent uncontrolled descent on a hose failure. Then, depending on the station, a toe guard or skirt where feet can get underneath, and a safety perimeter where the lift is in a walkway. Check which of these are standard on the model you are quoting, because toe guards, skirting and upper limit switches are priced options on several models.
What standard governs scissor lift tables?
ANSI MH29.1, Safety Requirements for Industrial Scissors Lifts, covering lifts raised and lowered by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical actuation. Autoquip cites it along with five other standards, Bishamon cites the 2020 edition plus UL or CSA electrical components, and Lift Products states its Guardian series meets US and EU standards. Presto cites ANSI Z535.4 in its service documentation but nothing on its product pages, and Blue Giant publishes none on the pages reviewed. That is not evidence of non-compliance, but it does mean you should ask for documented conformance in writing.
What do I need to do before servicing a lift?
Treat it as a lockout/tagout job under 29 CFR 1910.147, which covers servicing where unexpected energization or release of stored energy could injure someone. Hydraulic pressure is stored energy, so switching the power off is not isolation. The sequence is: remove the load, lower the platform fully, secure the maintenance prop, relieve hydraulic pressure, disable the controls and disconnect the power. Never rely on hydraulics to hold a platform up while anyone is underneath.
How high can a scissor lift go?
A single scissor stage runs out at roughly 60 inches of travel, but there are several published routes above that. Presto's double scissor series reaches 86 inches raised. Autoquip's Compact series is published to 94 inches raised, and its Series 35 Triple High publishes travel from 72 to 180 inches at 1,500 to 6,000 pounds. Lift Products publishes a multi-stage range with 48 to 120 inches of travel, reaching 136 inches raised. Autoquip's double long models serve a different purpose, adding capacity and stability on a longer platform rather than gaining height.
