If you want compact shelving that still handles serious weight, the Hallowell 5510-12 Hi-Tech Open Starter Unit is built for exactly that. This is a true industrial shelving line—engineered for daily use in demanding environments and designed to maintain its structural integrity over the long term, not to loosen up after a year of abuse.

Each shelf is box-formed and reinforced with a tubular welded box beam in both the front and rear, delivering maximum strength at the load-bearing edges. Hallowell’s exclusive triple-bend side flanges add stiffness and reduce flex, while lapped and welded corners keep the shelf rigid and square over time.

Organization is built in: shelf tops are punched to accept shelf dividers, making it easy to cleanly separate parts, supplies, and SKUs—ideal for stockrooms, maintenance areas, and picking setups.

Despite the heavy-duty design, setup stays simple. Every shelf installs using only four shelf clips, and shelves adjust independently on 1-1/2" centers so you can fine-tune spacing as inventory changes. The beaded front posts are flush for straight-in/straight-out shelf installation and full use of shelf width, while the angle back posts are roll-formed for strength and can even be used in place of beaded posts if desired.

At 800 lbs per shelf, this unit is built to carry dense loads in a tight footprint—perfect when floor space is limited but storage demands are not.
