Hallowell Hi-Tech 5-Shelf Closed Stockroom Shelving

Hallowell Hi-Tech 5-Shelf Closed Stockroom Shelving | Enclosed Steel, Three Capacity Tiers
Hallowell Hi-Tech 5-shelf closed stockroom shelving units add enclosed steel side and back panels to the proven Hi-Tech construction, creating a shelving system that contains and protects stored inventory while delivering the same structural specification as the open Hi-Tech series. Tubular welded box beams at the front and rear of each shelf, exclusive triple-bend side flanges, and reinforced welded corners provide the rigidity and load capacity for which the Hi-Tech line is known. Pre-punched shelves accept dividers, and four-clip installation makes setup and reconfiguration fast.
All units are 36" or 48" wide and 87" high, with three depth options (12", 18", or 24") and three gauge tiers. Capacity ranges from 350 to 1,250 pounds per unit, depending on width, depth, and gauge. Starter units begin a row and stand alone. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units to reduce per-bay cost in multi-unit rows.
Selecting the Right Unit:
♦ Closed vs. open Hi-Tech shelving: the closed shelving unit is the correct selection when dust protection, inventory containment, or visual enclosure of stored materials is required. The structural specification, dimensions, and capacity are identical to the open Hi-Tech series at matching model configurations. Choose closed when the application calls for panels; choose open when unrestricted visibility and access from multiple angles is the priority.
♦ Width, 36" vs. 48", the 36"-wide units (4520, 5520, 7520 prefix models) carry higher capacity at each gauge tier than the 48"-wide equivalents (4720, 5720, 7720). Choose 36" when load capacity is the priority. Choose 48" when shelf width accommodates the items better, and the lower capacity is adequate.
♦ Depth, 12", 18", or 24", the depth suffix encodes the shelf depth. Match depth to the stored items and the available floor space in front of the shelving. The enclosed side panels do not extend beyond the shelf depth, so the installation footprint is the same as the open series at matching depths.
♦ Capacity tier by gauge: the first digit identifies the gauge tier. The 4xxx series is the lightest gauge (350-500 lb per unit). The 5xxx series is the mid-tier (375-800 lbs per unit). The 7xxx series is the heaviest gauge (750-1,250 lbs per unit). Select the tier based on the actual combined weight of stored inventory per unit.
♦ Starter vs. add-on units, starter units stand alone and begin a shelving row. Add-on units cannot stand alone and require an adjacent starter or add-on unit to share uprights with. For a single-unit installation, order a starter. For rows of two or more units, order one starter and the balance as add-ons.
♦ 5-shelf vs. 6-shelf closed, both series are 87" high. The 6-shelf configuration provides an additional storage tier with reduced inter-shelf clearance. Choose the 5-shelf when taller items need more clearance between levels. Choose the 6-shelf when more storage positions per unit are needed, and shorter items fill the shelf depth.
Where Commonly Used:
♦ Industrial Tool Cribs and Parts Storage Rooms, tool cribs managing controlled access to tooling, consumables, and inventory use closed shelving to contain stored items between access transactions, with the enclosed panels reducing dust accumulation and preventing items from being seen or accessed from outside the designated pick area.
♦ Maintenance Department Enclosed Storerooms, maintenance departments organizing spare parts, lubricants, filters, and consumables in shared storerooms use closed shelving to keep supplies by department or equipment type with contained organization that holds up through multiple daily accesses by different maintenance technicians.
♦ Multi-User Shared Supply Areas, areas shared by multiple departments or shifts where inventory accountability matters, use closed shelving to maintain a contained organization that reduces the loose accumulation of items on open shelf faces over time.
♦ Office Supply and Administrative Storage: administrative stockrooms storing paper, toner, office supplies, and filing materials use closed shelving for a cleaner, more professional appearance, keeping supplies contained and protected from dust and light in a room shared by multiple staff.
♦ School and Educational Facility Storerooms, school maintenance rooms, athletic equipment storage, and classroom supply areas use closed shelving for organized, contained storage that withstands daily use by multiple users without the visual disorder that accumulates on open shelving in shared-use environments.
♦ Government and Institutional Secured Storage, government facilities and institutional environments where stored materials need to be contained, controlled, and presented in a structured appearance, use closed shelving in supply rooms, evidence storage areas, and departmental storage positions.
