Rousseau L-Compact 24-Inch High Modular Drawer Cabinet

The Rousseau L-Compact series is a space-efficient steel drawer cabinet designed for work cells, compact stations, and secondary storage positions where floor space is limited and a full-size R-Series cabinet is more than the application requires. At 18" wide and 24" high, each unit has a small footprint that fits beside or beneath workbenches, on shelving, or in tight aisle positions without consuming valuable floor area.

Drawers are rated at 100 lb per drawer with full-extension slides appropriate for hand tools, small parts, gauges, and instrument sets that don't require the 400 lb per drawer capacity of the R-Series. Two depths are available: 21" (L3ABD series) and 27" (L3ABG series). Drawer configurations range from 3 to 5 drawers with heights from 3" to 12". Most configurations are available with or without partitions. Two companion door/shelf units (L3ABD-2412 and L3ABG-2412) provide enclosed bulk storage in the same 18" wide x 24" high format, suitable for positioning alongside drawer units to complete a compact storage run.

Selecting the Right Cabinet:

♦ Depth -- 21" (L3ABD) vs. 27" (L3ABG): The 21"-deep cabinet has a shallower footprint suited to positions with limited front-to-back clearance, such as under-bench or tight-corner locations. The 27"-deep cabinet provides more drawer interior for items that benefit from additional front-to-back storage space. Both depths are 18" wide and 24" high and share the same drawer configuration options across most of the lineup.

♦ Drawer configuration: The L-Compact series is available in several preconfigured drawer-height combinations spanning 3 to 5 drawers. Configurations with multiple 3" or 4" shallow drawers suit small parts, fasteners, and precision instruments where items are thin and benefit from dedicated, individually accessible positions. Mid-depth combinations (5" to 6" drawers) suit hand tools and small components. The configurations, including an 8" or 12" drawer, suit items that are taller or bulkier and need more vertical clearance within a single drawer.

♦ Drawer count: Three-drawer units are best when fewer but larger drawer positions are needed. Four-drawer units are the most common format across this series, providing a practical balance between drawer count and drawer height within the 24" cabinet height. Five-drawer units maximize positions within the same footprint and suit high-count small-parts or tool organization.

♦ Door/shelf units: L3ABD-2412 (21" deep) and L3ABG-2412 (27" deep) are enclosed single-door cabinet units with one internal shelf. These are not drawer cabinets -- they are companion storage units in the same 18" wide x 24" high format, useful for storing items too large or irregularly shaped for the standard drawer configurations, and for use alongside the drawer units in a continuous run.

♦ Partitions: Models marked "Yes" include drawer divider partitions. Models marked "No" have open drawer interiors. The partition option is particularly useful in the shallower 3" and 4" drawers where small items benefit from organized separation.

Where Commonly Used:

The L-Compact's value is its footprint, not its capacity. It fits where R-Series cabinets don't and suits applications where a 100-lb drawer capacity is sufficient for the stored inventory.

♦ Under-Bench Supplemental Storage: Positioning one or two L-Compact units beneath an existing workbench to add organized drawer storage without replacing or modifying the bench structure.

♦ Work Cell Secondary Storage: Adjacent-to-machine secondary storage for frequently used tools, setup gauges, and consumables at CNC, inspection, or assembly positions where primary tool storage is elsewhere, and the L-Compact holds the day-to-day working set.

♦ Lab and Technical Workstations: Small-footprint drawer storage for gauges, calibration tools, and precision instruments in lab and technical environments where a full-size cabinet would occupy too much of the available bench or floor space.

♦ Service and Repair Positions: Compact, organized storage for hand tools, fasteners, and small spare parts at vehicle service bays, electronics repair stations, and field service staging areas where floor space is shared with equipment or vehicles.

♦ Modular Storage Arrays: Building a continuous low-profile storage run using multiple L-Compact drawer units and door/shelf units side by side along a wall or beneath a counter, creating organized accessible storage across a range of item types within a consistent 24" high profile.

♦ Training and Educational Facilities: Providing organized individual tool storage at student workstations in trade, vocational, and technical training environments where each station needs its own dedicated drawer storage in a compact, cost-effective format.
