Hallowell Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System
Hallowell Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System | 12 Pre-Configured Opening Layouts
The Hallowell Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System is high-density compartmentalized shelving with pre-configured opening layouts built into the unit, not standard adjustable shelving with bins placed on top. Each model number (5525 through 5536) defines a specific combination of opening widths and heights, ranging from 6" wide x 6" high to 36" wide x 12" high, with total opening counts from 14 to 78 openings per unit depending on the model. The opening layout is determined at the model level and is not field-adjustable.
This system is designed for high-SKU small-parts environments where each item needs a defined, labeled position: hardware, fasteners, electrical components, maintenance consumables, and production-line small parts. The open-front compartments keep contents visible and accessible for fast picking without opening doors or moving bins. Industrial-grade steel construction handles demanding stockroom and production environments.
Twelve pre-configured models are available. Select the model whose opening layout most closely matches the size mix of the parts to be stored. Call CustomMHS at 866-333-0728 for guidance on matching the right model to your inventory.
Selecting the Right Model:
♦ Opening width, openings range from 6" to 36" wide across the twelve models. Narrower 6" openings maximize the number of positions for the smallest parts. Wider 12", 18", and 36" openings accommodate larger items that do not fit in 6" or 9" slots. Most models combine two or three opening widths to accommodate a range of part sizes in a single unit.
♦ Opening height: openings range from 6" to 12" high. Shorter 6" openings suit flat, thin parts. Taller 9" and 12" openings accommodate bulkier items. Models with mixed heights allow flat and bulky parts to be stored in the same unit.
♦ Total opening count, opening counts range from 14 (model 5525, all large 18" wide openings) to 78 openings (model 5529, primarily 6" wide x 6" high). Higher opening counts suit high-SKU environments where many distinct part numbers must each have a dedicated position. Lower opening counts suit environments storing fewer SKUs in larger quantities per position.
♦ Single-size vs. mixed-opening models, some models (5525, 5526, 5536) use a single opening width for uniform organization. Others (5527 through 5535) mix two to four opening sizes to accommodate a variety of part sizes within a single unit. Choose single-size when the inventory is homogeneous. Choose mixed when storing parts of different sizes that would waste space in a uniform-opening layout.
Where Commonly Used:
♦ Hardware and Fastener Stockrooms, which manage large fastener inventories across dozens of SKUs, use bin shelving to assign each bolt, nut, screw, and washer its own labeled position, providing an immediate visual count and preventing mixing of similar-looking parts.
♦ Maintenance Parts Storage for Small Consumables, maintenance departments storing electrical components, fittings, seals, clips, and consumables in labeled bin positions, use bin shelving to keep each part type accessible without searching through loose stock on open shelves.
♦ Electronics Assembly and Component Kitting: staging resistors, capacitors, connectors, and small components in labeled bin positions at the assembly station, using high-density bin shelving to keep the complete component set organized in a compact, visible footprint.
♦ Production Line Small Parts Staging, production lines staging fasteners, inserts, clips, and small hardware at the line use bin shelving to keep each part type in a defined, replenishable position visible to both the line worker picking parts and the material handler restocking from the aisle.
♦ Distribution Center Small Parts Picking: distribution operations picking small parts orders use bin shelving to create a dense, labeled pick face, where each SKU has a fixed, visible position, reducing pick errors and supporting efficient replenishment.
