Rousseau 36x18 Modular Drawer Shelving

Rousseau Metal 36x18 Modular Drawer Shelving

Rousseau Modular Drawer Shelving | 36" Wide x 18" Deep, Five Drawer Configurations

Rousseau 36" wide x 18" deep modular drawer shelving units combine heavy-duty steel construction with 400-pound-capacity drawers on full-extension precision slides for organized, high-capacity tool and parts storage in a compact footprint. The 18" depth keeps the unit positioned close to the wall without sacrificing drawer volume. Five pre-configured drawer layout options cover the most common industrial and shop storage requirements, with both 75" and 87" height options available in each configuration.

Selecting the Right Configuration:

♦ Drawer height mix, the five pre-configured layouts cover different combinations of 3", 4", and 6" drawer heights. Shallower 3" and 4" drawers suit flat tooling, insert trays, gauges, shims, and small parts where height efficiency is important. The 6" drawers accommodate taller parts, fittings, and components that don't fit in shallow drawers. The mixed configurations (e.g., 3 x 4" + 4 x 6") provide both in the same unit for facilities storing a wide variety of item heights.

♦ Roll-out shelf option (R5SEC-754809 and R5SEC-874809), these configurations include (2) 3" drawers, (3) 4" drawers, (2) 6" drawers, and one roll-out shelf. The roll-out shelf slides out on its own rails, providing a work surface at shelf level that can support larger items or serve as a staging area within the storage unit. This is a combination of a drawer and a roll-out work surface configuration, not a pure drawer unit.

♦ Height, 75" vs. 87", both heights are available for all five drawer configurations. The 87" height provides more vertical space for additional drawer combinations in a custom configuration, or simply more clearance above the unit in the installation space. Choose 75" when ceiling or mezzanine clearance limits height. Choose 87" when maximum drawer capacity per unit is the priority.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Each configuration is available as a starter unit (standalone, includes both uprights) or an add-on unit (shares uprights with the adjacent unit, lower cost per bay). Order one starter per row and add-on units for all additional bays. Add-on units cannot stand alone.

♦ Custom configurations, the five pre-configured layouts cover common applications but do not represent the full range of Rousseau drawer combinations available. If the required drawer count, height mix, or special options (foam inserts, dividers, partitions, locking) are not covered by the standard table, click the Online Configurator in the Resources section to create a custom solution for your application or call CustomMHS at 866-333-0728 for a custom quote.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Tool Rooms and Machine Shop Tooling Storage, tool rooms storing cutting tools, insert trays, gauges, collets, toolholders, and precision instruments in 400-pound-capacity full-extension drawers organized by tool type and size across multiple drawer height configurations.

♦ Maintenance and MRO Stockrooms, maintenance departments storing replacement parts, filters, fittings, and consumables in labeled drawers that keep each item type contained and retrievable without searching through open shelving bins or loose shelf stacks.

♦ Assembly and Production Line Parts Storage, production areas staging small to medium components in organized drawer units at the line, where the 36" wide x 18" deep footprint fits in tight aisle positions without protruding into the work area.

♦ Automotive Service and Parts Rooms, automotive service departments, and dealership parts rooms organizing filters, gaskets, hardware, small parts, and specialty tools in labeled drawers with the full-extension slides that allow access to the full drawer depth without removing items from the front.

♦ Quality Control and Inspection Instrument Storage, QC departments storing precision instruments, gauges, and calibration equipment in shallow 3" and 4" drawers that keep instruments flat, protected, and organized by type without stacking or risking damage from contact with other instruments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a Rousseau Modular Drawer Shelving Unit, and what is it designed to do?
A Rousseau modular drawer shelving unit is a steel storage system built to organize tools, parts, supplies, and inventory in a compact footprint. It combines open shelving with smooth-sliding drawers to keep frequently used items within easy reach. The modular design makes it easy to fit into workbenches, maintenance areas, stockrooms, and production spaces. It is designed for daily use in busy environments where organization and durability are essential.
How does the 36x18 size help save space while improving organization?
This size strikes a practical balance between storage capacity and a slim profile, making it suitable for placement along walls, between workstations, or in aisles without crowding the area. The depth is well-suited for bins, boxes, and common supplies while keeping everything reachable. Drawers reduce clutter by keeping small items contained and sorted instead of scattered on shelves. The result is faster picking, cleaner work areas, and fewer lost items.
What are the main benefits of steel drawer shelving in a shop or warehouse?
Steel construction helps the unit withstand impacts, heavy use, and changing conditions that can wear down lighter materials. Drawers protect small parts from dust and accidental spills while keeping items separated by category. Shelving provides quick visibility for larger items and backstock. Together, they support better workflow by reducing search time and keeping work surfaces clear.
How can I use modular drawer shelving to streamline inventory and daily tasks?
Start by grouping items by task or department, then assign drawers for small parts and shelves for bulk or overflow. Keep high-use items at comfortable reach and place heavier items where they are easiest to lift safely. Labeling drawer fronts and shelf locations helps maintain consistency, especially when multiple people share the space. Over time, the system streamlines restocking and alerts when quantities are low.
What should I consider when choosing this unit for my space?
Think about what you plan to store, how often you access it, and whether you need more drawers or more open shelf space. Consider where the unit will live, such as next to a bench, in a tool crib, or in a picking area, and plan for clear access to drawers. If you expect your needs to grow, modular storage is a good choice because you can expand or reconfigure it later. A well-matched setup reduces wasted motion and keeps your workspace safer and more organized.
