Rousseau 42x18 Modular Drawer Shelving
Rousseau Modular Drawer Shelving | 42" Wide x 18" Deep, Five Drawer Configurations
Rousseau 42" wide x 18" deep modular drawer shelving provides six additional inches of drawer width compared to the 36" wide series, accommodating wider parts, larger toolholders, longer inserts, and more items per drawer row at the same 18" depth. All drawers carry 400 pounds and extend fully on precision slides. The 42" wide footprint suits tool rooms, maintenance departments, and production areas where the 36" wide units do not provide enough lateral drawer space for the stored inventory.
Five pre-configured drawer layout options are available in both 75" and 87" heights. The same five configurations used in the 36x18 series are offered here: (3) 4" + (1) 6", (3) 4" + (4) 6", (8) 6", (6) 4" + (4) 6", and (2) 3" + (3) 4" + (2) 6" + (1) roll-out shelf. Starter units stand alone or begin a row. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units, resulting in a lower per-bay cost. For custom drawer configurations, call CustomMHS at 866-333-0728.
Selecting the Right Configuration:
♦ 42x18 vs. 36x18, the 42" width provides more lateral space inside each drawer, useful for wider parts, longer toolholders, tool trays that span the full drawer width, and applications where the 36"-wide drawer is too narrow for the stored items. The 42" unit takes up more wall or aisle space than the 36" wide format. Choose 42" wide when lateral drawer space is the constraint. Choose 36" wide when installation space is limited.
♦ 42x18 vs. 42x24, the 18" depth provides adequate front-to-back drawer volume for most tool room and shop applications. The 24" depth (available on the separate 42x24 page) provides more front-to-back volume for longer parts and higher per-drawer quantities. Choose 18" deep when floor depth is a constraint. Choose 24" deep when maximum per-drawer volume is the priority.
♦ Drawer height configurations, the five pre-configured layouts cover 3", 4", and 6" drawer heights. Shallower 3" and 4" drawers suit flat tooling, insert trays, and fine hardware. The 6" drawers accommodate taller components. The mixed configurations balance both drawer heights in a single unit.
♦ Roll-out shelf option (R5SGC-754809 and R5SGC-874809), these configurations include (2) 3", (3) 4", (2) 6" drawers, and one roll-out shelf. The roll-out shelf slides out on its own rails and provides a flat staging surface within the unit.
♦ Height, 75" vs. 87", both heights are available for all five configurations. Choose based on available clearance above the installation position and the total drawer count needed per unit.
♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter unit per row. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units and cannot stand alone.
Where Commonly Used:
♦ Tool Rooms Storing Wider Tooling and Fixtures, tool rooms where toolholders, fixtures, jigs, or tool trays exceed the 36" lateral width of the narrower series use the 42" wide drawers to store wider items in labeled, organized positions with full-extension access.
♦ Maintenance Departments with Wider Component Storage, maintenance storerooms where pipe fittings, valve assemblies, and medium-sized components are wider than what fits comfortably in a 36"-wide drawer, use the 42" format for organized, contained storage without forcing items in at an angle.
♦ Assembly Areas with Larger Hardware Sets, production cells, and assembly areas staging wider component sets, motor brackets, actuators, and larger fastener assortments use the 42"-wide drawers to keep the full component set organized in a single drawer position without splitting it across multiple locations.
♦ CNC Tool Storage in Wide-Format Operations, machining operations using wide tool trays, multi-pocket insert holders, or extended-reach tooling that spans more than 36" use the 42"-wide drawer series to store the full tool set flat in a single drawer without folding or angling the tray to fit.
♦ Aerospace and Defense Component Organization, aerospace and defense facilities organizing precision components, service kits, and instrument sets that require more lateral space than standard 36"-wide drawers, use the 42"-wide format for organized, labeled, full-extension access to each item.
