Hallowell 5527 Hi-Tech Bin Storage Shelving – 36 Openings

hallowell bin shelving                 Hallowell 5527 Hi-Tech Bin Storage Shelving

Hallowell 5527 Hi-Tech Bin Shelving | 36 Openings, (32) 9"x9" and (4) 9"x12"

The Hallowell 5527 bin shelving unit provides 36 openings per unit in a mixed-height layout: (32) openings at 9" wide x 9" high and (4) openings at 9" wide x 12" high. All 36 openings share the same 9" width. The four taller 9" x 12" positions are located on the bottom shelf and accommodate slightly bulkier items that do not fit in the standard 9" height. The remaining 32 positions at 9" x 9" provide high-density storage for smaller parts across the upper shelves.

The 5527 offers 71% more positions per unit than the 5526 (36 vs. 21) by stepping down from 12"-wide to 9" wide openings. It is the correct choice when stored items fit within 9" wide openings, and maximum position count per unit is the priority. All units are 36" wide x 87" high. Three depth options are available: 12", 18", and 24".

Starter units stand alone or begin a row. Add-on units share a side panel with an adjacent unit to extend the row.

Selecting the Right Depth:

♦ 12" depth, minimum floor footprint. Suited for items that do not require more than 12" of front-to-back clearance in a 9"-wide opening.

♦ 18" depth, standard depth for most 9"-wide bin applications. Accommodates the majority of small parts, hardware, and packaged items stored in 9" wide positions.

♦ 24" depth, maximum depth. Suited for items requiring more front-to-back space within the 9"-wide opening, or for higher per-opening volume.

♦ 5527 vs. 5526, choose 5527 when stored items fit within a 9"-wide opening and 36 positions are needed per unit rather than 21. Choose 5526 when items require the wider 12" opening.

♦ 5527 vs. 5528, both use 9"-wide openings. The 5528 uses 6" wide openings for a higher density. Verify opening size requirements against the actual items to be stored.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter unit per row. Add-on units share a side panel and cannot stand alone.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Hardware and Fastener Stockrooms with Medium-Sized Items, stockrooms organizing medium-sized fasteners, bolts, fittings, and hardware that fit in 9" wide positions, use the 5527 for a high position count per unit with a mixed-height bottom shelf to accommodate the occasional larger item.

♦ Maintenance Parts and Consumable Storage, maintenance departments storing a wide variety of small to medium parts -- seals, clips, fittings, small components, and consumable supplies in 36 labeled positions per unit use the 5527 for dense, organized, visible storage in a manageable per-unit footprint.

♦ Electronics and Assembly Component Organization, electronics assembly areas storing resistors, connectors, terminal blocks, and small electronic components in 9"-wide bin positions, use the 5527 for the high position count that a large component variety requires within a single unit.

♦ Production Line Small Parts Kitting and Staging, production lines staging kitting components and small hardware in labeled 9" wide positions, use the 5527's 36-position layout to keep the full component set visible, accessible, and replenishable at the line without dedicated shelving for each individual part type.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Hallowell 5527 Hi-Tech Bin Storage Shelving used for?
This bin shelving is built for organized storage of small parts, maintenance items, and packaged supplies. Each opening creates a dedicated “home” for a specific item, reducing clutter and keeping inventory organized. It is a strong fit for fast-moving stockrooms where accuracy matters.
How do the 36 openings help with picking and restocking?
A higher opening count makes it easier to separate similar items and avoid mix-ups. Workers can find what they need faster because the layout is consistent and easy to scan. Restocking is also simpler because every item has a clear spot to return to after use.
What kinds of businesses benefit most from this bin shelving system?
It works well in warehouses, maintenance departments, repair shops, parts counters, and backroom storage areas. Any operation with lots of SKUs or small components will see a clearer organizational advantage. If your team spends time searching, this shelving style usually pays off with smoother daily workflows.
What makes Hi-Tech bin shelving a smart long-term storage choice?
This system is designed to be modular, so it can scale as your inventory grows or changes. The structured bin openings encourage standardization, improving training and ensuring consistency across shifts. It also supports better inventory control by making it easier to identify empty locations and prevent overstocking.
How should you plan your layout to get the most value from this shelving?
Group items by task, department, or picking frequency so the most-used parts stay within easy reach. Use clear labeling and assign each opening to a single item type to prevent drift over time. When you maintain a consistent location system, the shelving becomes a true productivity tool rather than just storage.
