Rousseau 42x24 Modular Drawer Shelving

Rousseau Metal 42x24 Modular Drawer Shelving

Rousseau Modular Drawer Shelving | 42" Wide x 24" Deep, Five Drawer Configurations

Rousseau 42" wide x 24" deep modular drawer shelving is the largest footprint in the 42"-wide series, combining the extra lateral space of the 42" width with the additional front-to-back volume of the 24" depth. All drawers carry 400 pounds and extend fully on precision slides. This configuration is appropriate when both the lateral and front-to-back dimensions of the stored items exceed what the 42x18 or 36x24 configurations can accommodate, or when maximum per-drawer volume is required to hold high quantities of wide, longer parts in a single drawer position.

Starter units stand alone or begin a row. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units. For custom configurations, call CustomMHS at 866-333-0728.

Selecting the Right Configuration:

♦ 42x24 vs. 42x18, both are 42" wide. The 24" depth provides more front-to-back volume per drawer for longer parts and higher quantities per position. Choose 42x24 when front-to-back drawer depth is the constraint in addition to lateral width. Choose 42x18 when the 18" depth is adequate, and a shallower footprint is preferred.

♦ 42x24 vs. 36x24, both are 24" deep. The 42" width provides more lateral drawer space for wider parts, wider tool trays, and more items arranged side-by-side in a single drawer. Choose 42x24 when both width and depth are needed. Choose 36x24 when lateral width is not a constraint.

♦ Drawer height configurations, five pre-configured layouts cover 3", 4", and 6" drawer heights. Shallower drawers suit flat tooling and inserts. The 6" drawers suit taller components. Mixed configurations provide both.

♦ Roll-out shelf option (R5SGE-754809 and R5SGE-874809), these configurations include (2) 3", (3) 4", (2) 6" drawers, and one roll-out shelf that slides out on its own rails.

♦ Height, 75" vs. 87", both heights are available for all five configurations. Choose 87" for maximum drawer count. Choose 75" when overhead clearance is a constraint.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter unit per row. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units and cannot stand alone.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Die and Mold Shops with Large-Format Tooling, die and mold operations storing large punch sets, form tooling, and die components that are both wide and long, use the 42x24 configuration for organized, labeled, full-extension drawer access to components that exceed the capacity of narrower or shallower configurations.

♦ Heavy Industrial Tool Rooms with Wide and Deep Tooling, tool rooms storing large toolholders, boring bars, custom fixtures, and specialty tooling that spans both the lateral and front-to-back dimensions, use the 42" x 24" drawer for the largest available drawer footprint in the standard Rousseau pre-configured lineup.

♦ Aerospace and Defense Large Component Storage, aerospace and defense facilities organizing large, dense components, service kits, and precision instruments in organized 400-pound-capacity drawers. The 42x24 configuration combines width, depth, and load rating to meet the needs of the most demanding storage applications.

♦ Maintenance Departments with Bulk Large Component Inventory, maintenance storerooms managing bulk quantities of larger replacement parts, actuators, valve bodies, large fittings, and equipment sub-assemblies use the 42x24 drawers to hold more per drawer position and reduce the number of drawer positions needed to organize the complete parts inventory.

♦ Multi-Bay Tool Room Row Installations, facilities building multi-bay modular drawer shelving rows for a complete tool room or storeroom. Use the 42x24 configuration as the maximum-footprint option in the Rousseau 42"-wide series, deploying add-on units to extend the row to the full length of the installation space.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a Rousseau modular drawer shelving system used for?
A Rousseau modular drawer shelving system is designed to organize tools, parts, and industrial supplies in a strong, efficient layout. It combines open steel shelving with built-in drawers to store a wide range of items in one unit. This helps reduce clutter and keeps essential materials easily accessible. It is commonly used in warehouses, maintenance rooms, and production environments.
How does the 42x24 size increase industrial storage capacity?
The wider, deeper shelf footprint provides more space for bulk inventory, larger tools, and heavy supplies. This makes it a great option for operations that need greater storage capacity without adding extra floor space. The deeper design improves flexibility for bins, equipment, and packaged components. It delivers maximum capacity while maintaining a clean, organized footprint.
Why is heavy-duty steel important for demanding work environments?
Heavy-duty steel construction ensures the shelving system can withstand daily use and heavy loads. It resists impact, wear, and long-term stress better than lighter storage materials. This durability is critical when storing valuable tools or essential replacement parts. A steel system also improves workplace safety by providing stable, dependable storage.
What advantages do drawer sections provide for parts organization?
Drawers offer secure, dedicated storage for small parts that are easily misplaced on open shelves. They keep items separated, protected, and easy to retrieve during fast-paced work. This improves efficiency by reducing time spent searching or reorganizing. Drawers also help maintain more accurate inventory control over time.
How does modular design support future growth and flexibility?
Modular drawer shelving allows you to expand or reconfigure your storage system as needs change. You can start with one unit and add additional sections later for a consistent, scalable setup. This eliminates the need for mismatched cabinets or full-system replacements. It is a long-term storage solution built for evolving operations.
