Jamco BM-Series Manual-Closed Flammable Safety Cabinets

Jamco BM-Series manual-close flammable safety cabinets provide a defined, compliant storage location for flammable liquids in maintenance shops, manufacturing areas, and service facilities. Double-wall steel construction limits heat transfer to the cabinet interior, flame-arrester vents prevent external ignition sources from reaching stored materials, and a leak-proof spill-containment sump captures drips and spills before they reach the floor. The 3-point locking handle secures the cabinet between uses. All BM-Series cabinets are FM-approved and meet OSHA and NFPA requirements for flammable liquid storage.

Six-gallon capacities are available in 30, 44, 45, 60, 90, and 120 gallons, with cabinet dimensions and shelf counts varying by capacity. Manual-close doors require the user to close and latch them after each access, providing positive confirmation that the cabinet is secured. All models are safety yellow. 

Selecting the Right Cabinet:

♦ Gallon capacity, the rated gallon capacity indicates the maximum volume of flammable liquids the cabinet is designed to store per OSHA 1910.106 and NFPA 30 requirements. Select the capacity that covers your actual storage volume with a margin. Do not fill a cabinet to its maximum rated capacity in routine use. The six capacities (30, 44, 45, 60, 90, and 120 gallons) cover the range from a single-shift small-volume maintenance position up to a high-volume production or service area.

♦ Manual-close vs. self-close, the BM-Series uses manual-close doors; the user opens and closes the doors by hand and latches them after each use. This requires active attention from the user to ensure the cabinet is secured. The self-close BS-Series uses spring-loaded doors that automatically close and latch when released. Choose manual close when user discipline is reliable and lower cost is the priority. Choose self-close when the risk of an unsecured cabinet between accesses is a concern.

♦ Shelf count by model, the BM30 includes 1 adjustable shelf; the BM44 includes 3 adjustable shelves; the BM45, BM60, BM90, and BM120 each include 2 adjustable shelves. The BM44 offers the most shelf positions per gallon of capacity, making it well-suited for storing many small containers and requiring organized shelf positions. Choose based on the number of individual containers to be stored and the required shelf organization.

♦ Cabinet width and depth by capacity, the BM30 (30 gallons) is 43" wide x 18" deep x 44" tall a shorter, shallower format. The BM44 (44 gallons) is 34" wide x 18" deep x 65" tall, narrower and deeper than the BM30. The BM45 (45 gallons) is 43" wide x 18" deep x 65" tall. The BM60 (60 gallons) is 34" wide x 34" deep x 65" tall. The BM90 (90 gallons) is 43" wide x 34" deep x 65" tall. The BM120 (120 gallons) is 59" wide x 34" deep x 65" tall. Choose based on the footprint available and the container sizes to be stored.

♦ FM approval, Factory Mutual approval is an independent third-party product certification that verifies the cabinet meets performance requirements for flammable liquid storage beyond basic code compliance. 

♦ Spill containment sump, the built-in leak-proof sump contains spills and drips inside the cabinet, preventing flammable liquids from reaching the floor where they could create slip or fire hazards. This is a critical feature for facilities storing liquids in containers that are opened and recapped repeatedly during use.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Maintenance and MRO Shops, maintenance departments storing solvents, lubricants, degreasers, and parts cleaning fluids in a designated, locked, compliant cabinet at the maintenance position rather than in open areas or on general shelving where ignition risk is uncontrolled.

♦ Manufacturing Production Areas, production positions that use flammable adhesives, coatings, thinners, or process fluids, store the shift's working supply in the flammable cabinet at the point of use, with the balance of inventory in a separate compliant storage room.
