Strong Hold Double Shift Drawer Cabinets

Strong Hold Double Shift Drawer Cabinets: Dual-Access, Rugged Storage for Round-the-Clock Operations

Strong Hold double shift drawer cabinets divide a single all-welded steel cabinet into two fully independent storage zones, each with its own 3-point locking handle, drawers, and shelving. The full-height interior partition runs the full depth of the cabinet, completely separating the interior so that one side can be accessed while the other remains locked. Each side carries its own set of drawers, rated at 400 pounds each, with ball-bearing slides, and its own shelving, rated up to 1,800 pounds per shelf.

The drawer/shelf ratio varies across five configurations per width: from 3 shelves and 3 drawers per side (6 total drawers) to 1 shelf and 8 drawers per side (16 total drawers). Two widths are available: 60" and 72". All models are 78" high and 24" deep. Ships fully assembled.

The double shift format is the appropriate drawer cabinet selection when two users, two shifts, or two departments must share a single floor position without sharing access to each other's tools and supplies.

Selecting the Right Cabinet:

♦ Drawers per side vs. shelves per side: the five configurations per width represent a spectrum from shelf-forward (3 shelves, 3 drawers per side) to drawer-forward (1 shelf, 8 drawers per side). Choose more shelves per side when stored items include a large proportion of bulky, irregular, or large items that don't fit in drawers. Choose more drawers per side when the majority of stored inventory is organized small-to-medium tools and parts that benefit from drawer organization and rapid access.

♦ Total drawer count as a guide: the total drawers across both sides can be read as an indicator of how drawer-intensive the storage needs are: 6 total (6DB) for primarily shelf-focused shared storage, 16 total (16DB) for operations where each user relies heavily on drawer organization for the majority of their inventory.

♦ Width, 60" vs. 72", the 60"-wide models provide 30" of usable interior width per side. The 72"-wide models provide 36" per side. The wider format allows more lateral shelf space and wider drawer interiors on each side. Shelf capacity of 1,800 pounds per shelf applies to both widths. Verify with Strong Hold whether this rating is consistent across both widths.

♦ 400-pound drawers with ball-bearing slides, the drawer capacity and slide specification are the same as the standard Strong Hold drawer cabinet series. Ball bearing slides are specified because in a double-shift cabinet, the drawers are likely to be heavily loaded and opened many times per shift across multiple users.

♦ Independent locking: each side locks independently with its own 3-point locking handle. The incoming shift can unlock and access their side without disturbing the outgoing shift's locked side. There is no shared lock that would require coordinating key access between the two users. This is the defining operational advantage over a standard single-lock cabinet in a two-user environment.

♦ Compared to double-shift floor cabinets, the standard Strong Hold double-shift floor cabinets (without drawers) provide shelving only on each side. The drawer cabinets provide organized storage on each side. Choose the drawer version when both users need drawer-organized small-item storage in addition to shelf storage. The additional cost is justified when tool organization and rapid drawer access are required for both sides.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Two-Shift Manufacturing Operations, day and night shift technicians or operators each lock their side at shift end, preventing their tools and materials from being used or moved by the other shift, and providing a clean accountability baseline for each shift handoff.

♦ Shared Maintenance Workstations: Two maintenance technicians sharing a single work position use independent sides to keep their tool kits and parts organized separately without requiring a second full cabinet, maintaining separate accountability within a shared footprint.

♦ Tool Crib Dual-Access Positions, tool crib configurations where two crib attendants work different shifts, each manages their own locked side of the cabinet without needing to coordinate key access or inventory verification across the other attendant's storage.

♦ Paired Operator or Technician Positions, adjacent workstations where two workers are stationed side by side, benefit from a shared double-shift cabinet positioned between them, with each worker accessing their own locked side from their respective position.

♦ Facilities Requiring Shift Accountability without Additional Floor Space, operations where adding a second independent cabinet would exceed the available floor footprint, benefit from the double-shift format that achieves two independent locked storage positions in a single cabinet's width.
