MECO Coil Cradles for Structural Pallet Rack

MECO coil cradles are designed to store heavy coils on structural pallet rack systems. Each cradle seats into the rack at the beam level, cradling the coil to prevent rolling or shifting during storage and forklift access. Capacity is up to 10,000 lb per cradle, provided the load does not exceed the rated capacity of the upright frames, beams, or individual beam level. The rack system rating governs the actual usable limit. A minimum 6" lift-off clearance is required for handling access. The maximum coil diameter is 48".

Three coil-diameter ranges and three upright-frame depths yield nine models. Select by coil diameter first, then match the cradle depth to your upright frame depth.

Selecting the Right Coil Cradle:

Match coil diameter to the appropriate cradle width. The 22" cradle fits coils 30" to 36" in diameter. The 24" cradle fits coils 37" to 42" in diameter. The 25" cradle fits coils 43" to 48" in diameter. Do not exceed 48" coil diameter.

Match the model number prefix (CC36, CC42, or CC48) to your upright frame depth. The prefix indicates the upright depth the cradle is designed to span -- 36", 42", or 48".

Before placing coils into storage, confirm that the total load weight is within the rated capacity of the beam pair and the upright frame for that bay. The cradle's 10,000 lb rating does not override the rack system's structural limits.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Steel Coil Storage: Warehouses and service centers storing steel coils of varying diameters in selective pallet rack rows, using vertical rack space instead of floor stacking.

♦ Wire and Cable Coil Storage: Manufacturing and electrical supply facilities storing wire coils, cable reels, or rolled conductor materials that require stable cradle support to prevent uncontrolled rolling.

♦ Rolled Material Storage: Operations storing tubing rolls, hose reels, wrapped roll goods, or other large-diameter cylindrical loads that are not suited for flat beam storage without cradle support.

♦ Metalworking and Fabrication Shops: Facilities that receive and stage coil stock for press, stamping, or roll-forming operations, where coils must be stored close to the production line in an organized, accessible position.

♦ Distribution Centers with Mixed Inventory: Distribution operations that store cylindrical loads alongside standard palletized inventory in a common selective rack system, using coil cradles to accommodate the non-palletized product mix.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are MECO Coil Cradles for Structural Pallet Rack used for?
MECO Coil Cradles are used to store heavy coils on structural pallet rack systems. They help support round materials that may shift or roll without proper storage. These coil cradles are commonly used for steel coils, wire coils, and rolled industrial materials. They keep coil inventory organized while using existing rack space more efficiently. Each cradle must be used within the rated capacities of the rack, upright, and beam levels.
How do MECO Coil Cradles help improve facility organization?
MECO Coil Cradles help move coils off the floor and into controlled rack positions. This can reduce floor congestion and create clearer travel paths for forklifts. Organized coil storage also makes inventory easier to identify, count, and access. Facilities can use vertical rack space instead of spreading heavy materials across floor areas. This supports a cleaner storage layout and smoother material flow.
What are the key features of MECO Coil Cradles?
MECO Coil Cradles are designed for use with structural pallet rack systems. They offer up to 10,000 pounds capacity when rack limits are not exceeded. Coil cradles must not exceed the capacity of the beam level. A minimum 6-inch lift off is required for proper handling access. The maximum coil diameter must not exceed 48 inches.
Why is rack capacity important when using coil cradles?
Rack capacity is critical because the cradle is only one part of the storage system. The pallet rack uprights, beams, and beam level must support the total load. Even if the coil cradle is rated for 10,000 pounds, the rack may limit usable capacity. Facilities should confirm load ratings before placing coils into storage. This helps reduce the risk of overloading the rack structure.
What types of facilities typically use MECO Coil Cradles?
MECO Coil Cradles are often used in warehouses, manufacturing plants, metalworking shops, and distribution facilities. They are useful where heavy rolled materials need stable rack storage. Common applications include storing steel coils, wire coils, tubing rolls, and other cylindrical loads. These cradles help forklift operators access coils with better control. They also help facilities manage heavy inventory in a more structured way.
