If you’re storing lots of small parts and you want a true assigned-location system, the Hallowell 5527-12 Hi-Tech Metal Bin Starter Shelving is built to maximize SKU density and picking speed. Instead of rummaging through mixed totes or “wherever it fits” shelving, each item gets a dedicated opening so workers can find, pick, and restock faster with better visibility and fewer mistakes.

This model is a high-compartment layout: 36 total openings, including 32 9" W x 9" H openings and 4 9" W x 12" H openings. That mixed configuration is ideal when most of your inventory is small, but you still need a few taller slots for slightly larger items, boxed components, or kitting supplies.

It’s a pre-engineered closed bin shelving system with closed back and side panels, keeping contents contained and preventing parts from drifting into adjacent areas or falling out the back. The included shelf dividers are individually adjustable side-to-side, allowing you to control compartment sizing. And when your inventory changes, dividers can be removed or added so the unit adapts without replacement.

Starter units are complete and freestanding. When you need more capacity, adder units connect to starters and share a side panel to create clean, space-efficient rows—perfect for tool cribs, MRO rooms, and parts departments.
