Hallowell 5531 Hi-Tech Bin Shelving | 29 Openings, Mixed 9" and 12" Wide

The Hallowell 5531 bin shelving unit is the first mixed-width model in the Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System series, combining three opening sizes in a single 29-position layout. The upper portion of the unit uses 9"-wide openings (16) at 9" W x 9" H and (4) at 9" W x 12" H on the bottom shelf of that zone for smaller parts. The lower portion uses (9) openings at 12" W x 12" H for larger items. This configuration suits facilities storing two distinct size categories of parts in a single shelving unit without dedicating separate units to each size range.

Unlike the 5525 through 5530 models, which each use a single opening width throughout, the 5531 mixes 9" and 12" widths across three shelf zones. All units are 36" wide x 87" high. Three depth options: 12", 18", and 24".

Selecting the Right Depth:

♦ 12" depth, minimum footprint. Suited for items that do not require more than 12" of front-to-back clearance in either the 9" or 12"-wide zones.

♦ 18" depth, standard depth for most mixed-size bin applications.

♦ 24" depth, maximum depth for higher per-opening volume or items requiring more front-to-back space in the larger 12" openings.

♦ 5531 vs. single-width models (5525-5530), choose 5531 when inventory includes a clear split between smaller items that fit in 9"-wide openings and larger items that require 12"-wide openings, and a single mixed unit is preferred over two separate units.

♦ 5531 vs. 5527, both use 9"-wide openings for smaller items, but the 5531 adds 12"-wide openings for larger items at the cost of fewer total 9"-wide positions (16 vs. 32). Choose 5531 when larger items also need bin positions in the same unit. Choose 5527 when all items fit in 9"-wide openings, and the maximum 9"-wide position count is the priority.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter per row. Add-on units share a side panel and cannot stand alone.
