If your parts inventory isn’t “one size fits all,” the Hallowell 5531-12 Hi-Tech Metal Bin Starter Shelving is the right bin system. It’s built for assigned-location storage, so every item gets a dedicated opening, but it also offers a mixed-opening layout to handle a wider range of part sizes without wasting space.

In a typical installation, each SKU is assigned to a specific bin opening, which drives the real payoff: faster picking, better visibility, cleaner restocking, and fewer mistakes. This is precisely what tool cribs, MRO rooms, and parts departments need when multiple people are pulling parts throughout the day.

Unlike layouts that are all small compartments, the 5531-12 includes three opening sizes in one unit:
♦ Plenty of smaller openings for small parts and hardware
♦ Mid-height openings for bagged assemblies or boxed components
♦ Larger 12" x 12" openings for bulkier items, kits, and packaging

It’s a pre-engineered closed bin shelving system with closed back and side panels, keeping contents contained and preventing inventory from drifting out the back or into adjacent sections. The included shelf dividers are individually adjustable side-to-side, and dividers can be removed or added as your inventory mix changes—so the system adapts without replacement.

Starter units are complete and freestanding. You can expand later with adder units that connect to starters and share a side panel to build clean, space-efficient rows.
