Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe Antimicrobial Finish Open Shelving

Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe Antimicrobial Finish Open Shelving Units            Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe Antimicrobial Finish Open Shelving

Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe Antimicrobial Open Shelving | Healthcare, Lab, and Clean Environments

Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe open shelving units feature the same welded-steel Hi-Tech construction as the standard 5- and 6-shelf series, with the addition of a platinum antimicrobial powder-coat finish that inhibits bacteria, mold, and mildew on the shelving surface for up to 20 years. This makes the MedSafe series the correct choice for healthcare supply rooms, clinical support areas, laboratories, food service storage, pharmaceutical staging, and any facility where surface contamination is a documented concern, and the shelving itself is part of the infection control program.

Two shelf configurations are available: 8-shelf and 11-shelf in the same 87" overall height, providing tighter inter-shelf spacing and more storage levels than the 5 and 6-shelf Hi-Tech series. All units are 36" or 48" wide with three depth options (12", 18", or 24"). Starter and add-on units are available for each combination to create continuous rows of shelving.

Capacity is 500 pounds per unit for all 36"-wide models, 375 pounds for 48"-wide models at 12" and 18" depths, and 350 pounds for the 48"-wide 24"-deep models. The antimicrobial "-AM" suffix in every model number confirms the MedSafe finish standard. Hi-Tech models without this suffix do not include the antimicrobial treatment.

Selecting the Right Unit:

♦ MedSafe vs. standard Hi-Tech, the MedSafe series is the appropriate selection when surface antimicrobial protection is a requirement, not just a preference. In regulated healthcare, food service, pharmaceutical, and laboratory environments, the 20-year antimicrobial finish supports infection control documentation and procurement compliance. The standard Hi-Tech 5 and 6-shelf series provide equivalent structural performance at lower cost when antimicrobial surface treatment is not required.

♦ 8-shelf vs. 11-shelf configurations, both configurations are 87" high. The 11-shelf configuration provides three additional shelf tiers with reduced inter-shelf clearance compared to the 8-shelf format. Choose the 11-shelf when maximum storage positions per unit are needed, and the stored items are shorter. Choose the 8-shelf when taller supplies or boxed materials need more clearance between shelf levels.

♦ Width, 36" vs. 48", the 36"-wide units (451x prefix) carry 500 lbs per unit at all depths. The 48"-wide units (471x prefix) carry 375 or 350 lbs, depending on depth. Choose 36" wide when higher capacity is needed. Choose 48" wide when a wider shelf surface suits the items being stored, and the lower capacity is adequate.

♦ Depth, 12", 18", or 24", the depth suffix (-12, -18, -24) determines shelf depth. Match depth to the size of supplies being stored and the available floor space in front of the shelving unit.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units, starter units (no "A" prefix) stand alone and begin a row. Add-on units (A-prefix) share uprights with an adjacent unit and cannot stand alone. For a single-unit installation, order a starter unit. For rows of two or more units, order one starter and the remaining units as add-ons.

♦ Model number verification: All MedSafe models end in "-AM." Confirm the "-AM" suffix is present before placing an order to ensure the antimicrobial finish is included. Standard Hi-Tech models without "-AM" are structurally equivalent but do not carry the MedSafe treatment.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Hospital and Clinic Supply Rooms, healthcare supply rooms storing sterile supplies, disposables, and medical consumables use MedSafe shelving as part of the facility's infection control infrastructure, with the antimicrobial surface adding a documented layer of protection between cleaning cycles.

♦ Pharmaceutical Staging and Dispensing Areas, pharmaceutical storage and staging areas where contamination of supplies is a regulatory concern, use MedSafe shelving to meet material specification requirements for surfaces in direct proximity to drug products.

♦ Laboratory and Research Storage, laboratory environments storing reagents, sample containers, and lab supplies in areas subject to contamination control programs, use MedSafe shelving where standard steel shelving would not meet the facility's surface hygiene specification.

♦ Food Service and Commercial Kitchen Storage, food service back-of-house storage areas regulated by health departments for surface sanitation use antimicrobial shelving to meet facility inspection requirements and reduce the risk of contamination of stored food supplies and packaging materials.

♦ School and Educational Institution Healthcare Areas, school nurses' offices, first aid rooms, and health education supply storage areas use MedSafe shelving for the antimicrobial protection that supports the school's health and sanitation standards without requiring specialized clinical storage equipment.

♦ Cleanroom Support and Gowning Areas, cleanroom support areas storing gowning supplies, PPE, and consumables adjacent to controlled environments, use MedSafe shelving for surface antimicrobial protection that supports the overall cleanliness standard of the adjacent controlled area.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe open shelving unit designed for?
The Hallowell Hi-Tech MedSafe open shelving unit is built for environments where cleanliness and organization are critical. It provides strong, open storage for medical supplies, laboratory materials, and essential inventory. The open design allows staff to quickly see and access items when time matters. It is a smart fit for healthcare, research, and clean storage areas.
What makes the MedSafe shelving different from standard steel shelving?
MedSafe shelving features a specialized antimicrobial powder-coat finish that supports cleaner storage conditions. This added protection helps reduce the risk of surface contamination in sensitive environments. It combines durability with an extra layer of defense that standard shelving may not provide. This makes it especially valuable in settings with strict hygiene expectations.
How does an antimicrobial powder-coat finish benefit healthcare spaces?
An antimicrobial finish helps inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and microbes on the shelving surface. This can support overall sanitation efforts in hospitals, clinics, and labs where cleanliness is a daily priority. While it does not replace routine cleaning, it adds an additional safeguard for stored supplies. It also helps create a more confident storage solution in patient-focused environments.
Is this shelving unit still heavy-duty and durable for daily use?
Yes, the MedSafe unit maintains the heavy-duty strength expected from Hallowell Hi-Tech shelving. It is built for frequent access, ongoing use, and the demands of busy professional settings. The steel construction provides stability for storing supplies, equipment, and boxed materials. It delivers both durability and cleanliness in a single, dependable system.
Why is open shelving useful in medical and lab storage areas?
Open shelving keeps items visible and easy to retrieve, improving efficiency in fast-paced work. Staff can quickly confirm inventory levels without opening doors or moving obstacles. This improves organization and reduces the risk of misplaced supplies. In healthcare environments, quick access and clarity are essential for smooth operations.
