Hallowell Hi-Tech 6-Shelf Open Steel Shelving

Hallowell Hi-Tech 6-Shelf Open Steel Shelving | Starter and Add-On Units, Heavy-Duty Construction
Hallowell Hi-Tech 6-shelf open steel shelving units are built to a higher structural specification than standard open shelving: tubular welded box beams at the front and rear of each shelf, exclusive triple-bend side flanges, and reinforced welded corners deliver capacity and rigidity that holds up under daily industrial loading without deflection or rack. The pre-punched shelf surface accepts dividers to organize parts, supplies, and tools within each shelf tier. Installation requires only four clips per shelf, making setup and reconfiguration fast.
The 6-shelf configuration adds one shelf tier over the Hi-Tech 5-shelf series at the same 87" height, reducing the clear space between shelves and increasing the number of storage levels per unit. All units are 36" or 48" wide and 87" high, with three depth options (12", 18", or 24"). Three-gauge tiers provide capacity from 350 to 1,250 pounds per unit, depending on width, depth, and gauge selection.
Starter units stand alone and begin a shelving row. Add-on units share uprights with adjacent units to extend the row.
Selecting the Right Unit:
♦ Width, 36" vs. 48", the 36"-wide units (4511, 5511, 7511 prefix models) provide higher capacity at each gauge tier than the 48"-wide units (4711, 5711, 7711). The 48"-wide units provide more shelf surface per bay for wider items. Choose 36" wide when load capacity is the priority. Choose 48" wide when shelf width matters more, and the lower capacity rating is adequate.
♦ Depth, 12", 18", or 24", the depth suffix (-12, -18, -24) encodes the shelf depth. Choose based on the depth of the items to be stored and the available floor space in front of the shelving unit.
♦ Capacity tier by gauge: the first digit of the model number identifies the gauge tier. The 4xxx series is the lightest gauge and lowest capacity (350 to 500 lbs per unit). The 5xxx series is the mid-tier (375 to 800 lbs per unit). The 7xxx series is the heaviest-gauge and highest-capacity (750 to 1,250 lbs per unit). Select the tier based on the actual combined weight of the inventory to be stored per unit.
♦ 6-shelf vs. 5-shelf Hi-Tech, both series are 87" high. The 6-shelf configuration provides one additional shelf tier, which reduces the clear height between shelves. Choose the 6-shelf series when more storage levels per unit are needed, and the reduced inter-shelf clearance is compatible with the stored items. Choose the 5-shelf series when taller items require more clearance between shelf levels.
♦ Structural features, the tubular welded box beams and triple-bend flanges are construction details that distinguish the Hi-Tech series from lighter-duty open shelving. These features are relevant when the shelving will be heavily loaded, frequently accessed, or used in an environment where rigidity under load is required rather than preferred.
♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Always begin a row with a starter unit. Add-on units cannot stand alone. For single-unit installations, order a starter unit. For two or more units in a row, order one starter and one or more add-ons.
Where Commonly Used:
♦ Industrial Stockrooms and MRO Parts Storage, maintenance, and stockroom environments storing heavy parts, tools, and supplies in labeled bin-and-box systems use the Hi-Tech 6-shelf for organized, high-capacity storage that withstands daily heavy use without deflection.
♦ Warehouse Storage and Pick Shelving, warehouse operations using open shelving in pick aisles or reserve storage areas use the 6-shelf format to maximize the number of storage levels per unit, fitting more SKU positions into the same floor footprint.
♦ Distribution Center Back-of-House Storage, distribution facilities with dedicated overstock or secondary storage shelving in back-of-house areas use the Hi-Tech 6-shelf in multi-unit rows sized to fill the storage bay and organized by SKU category or velocity tier.
♦ Automotive and Service Parts Storage, automotive service departments, dealership parts rooms, and service shop backstock areas use the Hi-Tech 6-shelf for organized parts storage, where the combination of capacity, adjustability, and open access supports fast daily picking and restocking.
♦ Government and Institutional Storerooms, government facilities, military supply rooms, and institutional maintenance departments requiring durable long-service open shelving use the Hi-Tech series for its structural specification and long service life under demanding use conditions.
