MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars for Pallet Rack Beams

MECO drop-in cross support bars are steel supports that install at the beam level of a pallet rack bay without bolting or drilling. They bridge the gap between front and back beams to add intermediate load contact points, protect beam flanges from wear caused by undersized or uneven pallet bottoms, reinforce weak or inconsistent pallets by reducing mid-span sag, and provide additional support beneath wire decking. Each bar is rated at 5,000 lb capacity.

Bars are available in three channel sizes to match 3", 4", or 5" structural beams, and in three depths (36", 42", and 48") to match upright frame depth. Select the bar depth that matches the frame depth in your existing rack. Nine models total.

Selecting the Right Cross Support Bar:

Match the bar's channel size to the beam channel size in your existing rack (3", 4", or 5"). Match the bar depth to the upright frame depth (36", 42", or 48"). Bars drop in place; spacing between bars within a bay level can be adjusted to align with pallet bottom board locations or to center support under the heaviest contact points.

For bays with wire decking, cross supports provide additional mid-span backing that helps limit deck deflection under off-center or lightweight loads. Confirm that the total accessory load -- including bars and decking -- remains within the upright frame and beam pair capacity ratings for the bay.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Mixed Pallet Storage: Bay levels receiving pallets from multiple suppliers with inconsistent bottom board spacing, where uneven load contact can concentrate force on beam flanges over time.

♦ Partial Pallet and Lightweight Load Storage: Pick locations storing partial pallets, totes on pallets, or lightweight loads that do not fully span the beam pair and tend to rock or shift during handling.

♦ Wire Decking Support: Additional mid-span backing beneath wire deck panels to reduce deck deflection and improve surface stability for smaller or irregularly shaped loads.

♦ Beam Flange Protection: High-throughput pick-and-replenishment aisles, where frequent pallet placement cycles accelerate wear on beam flanges due to narrow or damaged pallet stringers.

♦ Nonstandard Footprint Storage: Skids, crates, or containers whose footprint dimensions do not align consistently with standard beam spacing, requiring supplemental contact points to keep loads stable.

♦ Rack Maintenance and Upgrade: Adding cross support bars to existing bays as a low-cost improvement to rack stability and load support without replacing beams or uprights.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars for Pallet Rack Beams (3, 4, and 5 Inch Beams)?
MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars are steel supports that drop into a pallet rack beam level. They add contact points between the beams, improving support for pallets and decking. The bars fit common 3, 4, and 5 inch pallet rack beams. Each bar is rated for up to 5,000 pounds when used within your rack design limits. Because they drop in, you can reposition them as storage patterns change.
How do these drop-in cross supports help protect a facility’s racking and inventory?
Cross supports help reduce beam flange wear caused by undersized pallets and skids. When loads sit on narrow contact points, the concentrated force can dent or scrape the beam. Adding MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars spreads support under the load and keeps pallets seated. That can lower repair frequency and reduce the chance of creating unsafe rack levels. They also provide wire decking with more mid-span support, helping limit deck deflection.
What key features should you know before specifying MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars?
The drop-in design installs at the beam level without drilling or bolting to the uprights. Place bars where your pallets need support, then adjust spacing to match the load footprint. Steel construction provides rigid support and resists bending from uneven or shifting pallets. They are designed to work with 3-, 4-, and 5-inch pallet rack beams. Use them with wire decking or solid decking, following your rack manufacturer’s guidelines for accessory loads.
Where are MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars typically used in warehouse operations?
Facilities use cross supports in a selective pallet rack where pallet quality varies by supplier or shift. They are useful for partial pallets, mixed SKU storage, and pallets with missing or thin bottom boards. In pick modules, extra support can help keep loads stable during frequent pallet touches. They can also support skids, totes on pallets, and nonstandard footprints that do not align well with the beams. Adjust placement when slotting changes so the support aligns with the heaviest contact points.
How do you decide how many cross support bars to use and where to place them?
To plan a beam level, start with the pallet type, bottom board spacing, and how loads land on the beams. Add enough MECO Drop-in Cross Support Bars to catch weak pallet areas and reduce mid-span sag. Keep the 5,000-pound rating in context with your rack capacity, decking rating, and the bar’s placement. In high-traffic aisles, consistent support reduces load rocking and helps operators center pallets. If you store unusual items or heavy point loads, confirm the configuration with your rack engineer or safety program.
