Akro-Mils 35185 Plastic Stack-Nest Container, 18 x 11 x 9 in., 6 per Carton

The Akro-Mils 35185 is a stack and nest container that measures 18 in. long x 11 in. wide x 9 in. tall outside. Loaded containers stack for dense storage and shipping, and empty containers nest inside one another to cut the space they take up. The inside is wider at the top than at the bottom, which is what lets empties nest.

Nesting is measured by the nest ratio, the number of empty containers that occupy the vertical space of one. Space saved on a given number of empties equals the empties held at peak times times (1 minus 1 divided by the ratio). For example, 400 empties at a 4.0 to 1 ratio fit in the space of 100. Akro-Mils does not publish a nest ratio for the 35185, so ask before you size return space.

The container holds 60 lb or 5.69 gal. Inside it measures 15 x 10 x 8-7/8 in. at the top and 14-1/8 x 9-1/8 in. at the bottom. One distributor lists a stacking capacity of 300 lb, which equals the weight of five containers loaded to their full 60 lb rating. In a stack, the bottom container’s support rating governs the column height, not the per-container load. The industrial-grade polymer resists alkalis, corrosion, rust, water and weak acids. A snap-on lid (35181) is sold separately.

Selecting the Right Stack and Nest Container
◆ Footprint, 18 x 11 in. outside, set by your shelf, cart, conveyor or pallet layout
◆ Height, 9 in. here, while the 35180 has the same footprint at 6 in.
◆ Inside size, 15 x 10 x 8-7/8 in. at the top and 14-1/8 x 9-1/8 in. at the bottom, so confirm your largest part fits
◆ Load, 60 lb and 5.69 gal per container, so weigh a full container of your parts before choosing
◆ Stack height, 300 lb stacking capacity, so keep the combined weight above the bottom container within that figure
◆ Nest ratio, not published, so confirm it before planning space for empties
◆ Lid, an optional snap-on lid (35181), sold separately
◆ Color, gray, blue or red, with each carton one color of 6 containers
