Akro-Mils economy small parts bins are one-piece molded polypropylene bins that stack when full and nest when empty. They suit warehouses, workshops and maintenance areas that need many bins at a controlled cost. Full bins stack on built-in posts for stable storage and parts staging, and empty bins nest inside one another to shrink the space empties take up during returns and replenishment.

Nesting is measured by the nest ratio, the number of empty containers that occupy the vertical space of one. Space saved on a given number of empties equals the empties held at peak times (1 minus 1 divided by the ratio). For example, 400 empties at a 4.0 to 1 ratio fit in the space of 100. Akro-Mils does not publish a nest ratio for these bins, so ask before sizing return space.

The bins are water, rust and corrosion proof, and unaffected by weak acids and alkalis. Bin lengths of 8-7/8 and 11-7/8 in. fit 12 in. deep shelving, and the 17-7/8 in. length fits 18 in. shelving. A bin that overhangs the shelf edge is a snag hazard, so match length to shelf depth.

Five models are listed, in 5 and 7 in. heights and 6-5/8 and 8-3/8 in. widths. All are sold by the carton.

Selecting the Right Economy Bin
