Akro-Mils Indicator Small Part Bins
Akro-Mils Indicator bins build a kanban signal into the bin itself. Kanban is a visual replenishment method. A traditional two-bin system uses two bins per part number: when the first bin empties it goes to replenishment while the second supplies production. That doubles the bin count and shelf space for every SKU. An Indicator bin does the same job with one bin per position.

According to Akro-Mils, you stock the bin up to the divider that marks the reserve volume and pick from the blue side until you reach it. Then you flip the bin so the orange side faces out, which signals low stock. Refill the bin and repeat. Blue and orange is the standard color pair, and Akro-Mils also offers black and red.
The bins are 4 in. high with a hopper front for easy access, and they nest when empty. Four sizes cover two lengths and two widths. Both inside and outside dimensions are listed for every model, so you can check the part against the inside and the shelf against the outside.
The system only works if operators flip the bin every time stock reaches the reserve point. It suits lean and visual management environments where the replenishment routine is clearly defined.
Selecting the Right Indicator Bin
◆ Inside dimensions, 9-7/8 or 16-1/8 in. long and 2-3/4 to 5-3/8 in. wide, so confirm the part fits before ordering
◆ Shelf depth, 11-5/8 in. long bins for 12 in. shelves and 17-7/8 in. for 18 in., because a bin that overhangs is a snag hazard
◆ Width, 4-1/8 in. for tight positions or small parts, 6-5/8 in. for more interior volume
◆ Single-bin or two-bin kanban, single-bin where shelf space per SKU is tight or a second bin adds complexity, two-bin where you want a full second bin of safety stock
◆ Reserve level, set where the divider sits, so size it to your consumption rate and replenishment lead time
◆ Color, blue and orange, with black and red also available from Akro-Mils, so confirm which color you are ordering
◆ Carton quantity, 24 bins for the 36442 and 12 for the other three, with prices per carton
◆ Dividers, a width divider is available, so confirm the part number for your bin
