WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire Security Cage (1-Wall), 10-Gauge Welded Wire, 2" x 2" Mesh, Modular Bolt-Together System

The WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire Security Cage is a modular, bolt-together, one-wall welded-wire enclosure designed for fast tool-crib builds and secure storage areas. Made from 10-gauge wire welded into a 2" square mesh pattern, Style 840 delivers strong perimeter security while staying lighter and more open than chain link alternatives, giving better visibility and easier airflow through the secured space.

Installation is straightforward. The fully framed welded wire panels are engineered to bolt together cleanly, so most maintenance teams can install the system without special tools or equipment. Panels attach to posts with standard hand tools, making it a practical solution for quickly building or expanding secure areas.

Because it's modular, the same panel sizes work for walls and ceilings, allowing you to stack panels to reach your required height and create a consistent, professional enclosure. Choose from hinged, double-hinged, or sliding doors to match your traffic flow and tool crib layout. The open yet secure structure allows light, HVAC, and fire suppression to circulate and function properly, helping your facility maintain safety and comfort while protecting valuable inventory.

2" x 2" welded wire is usually enough when:

♦ The goal is separation and traffic control rather than theft prevention, such as walling off a storage room, an equipment area, or a contractor space.
♦ Contents are bulky, low-value, or hard to move by hand.
♦ Budget and installation speed carry more weight than security rating.
♦ Access control comes mainly from the door and the lock rather than the panel itself.

When to Use 2" x 1" Woven Wire Over 2" x 2" Welded Wire

Both mesh types stop casual access, but they fail differently and protect against different threats. The first question is whether the barrier is doing security work or separation work.

Woven mesh is interlocked at every crossing rather than fused. Cutting one strand does not open a hole, because the surrounding weave still holds the pattern in place. Welded mesh relies on the weld at each intersection, so breaking a few welds can open a gap faster. The 2" x 1" opening also matters as much as the wire itself. A 1-inch dimension blocks a hand and forearm, preventing you from reaching through to a latch, a lock, or the inventory sitting just inside the line. A 2" x 2" opening does not.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Tool Cribs and Fast Storage Builds: the modular bolt-together design supports quick installation.
♦ Warehouses and Manufacturing Facilities, medium-duty welded mesh suits general secure storage needs.
♦ Maintenance Teams and Facility Expansions: standard hand tools allow installation without special equipment.
♦ Ventilated Secure Storage: the open mesh structure supports HVAC and fire suppression circulation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the RapidWire 1-wall security cage?
The RapidWire 1-wall cage is a modular, bolt-together welded wire enclosure built from 10-gauge wire in a 2" square mesh pattern, designed to fit between two existing walls. Panels are fully framed and attach to posts with standard hand tools. CustomMHS carries the full line of WireCrafters RapidWire security cages, backed by the manufacturer's warranty.
When is 2" x 2" welded wire the right choice?
It works when the barrier is doing separation work rather than security work. That includes walling off a storage room, an equipment area, or a contractor space, and situations where contents are bulky, low-value, or hard to move by hand. It also fits when budget and installation speed matter more than security rating, and when access control comes mainly from the door and lock rather than from the panel itself.
When should I choose 2" x 1" woven wire instead?
Two things separate them. Woven mesh is interlocked at every crossing rather than fused, so cutting one strand does not open a hole because the surrounding weave still holds the pattern. Welded mesh depends on the weld at each intersection, so breaking a few welds opens a gap faster. The opening size matters just as much: a 1-inch dimension blocks a hand and forearm, so no one can reach through to a latch, a lock, or the inventory just inside the line. A 2" x 2" opening does not.
How difficult is installation?
The panels bolt together cleanly, so most maintenance teams install the system without special tools or equipment. Panels attach to posts using standard hand tools. Because the same panel sizes work for both walls and ceilings, panels stack to reach the required height, which keeps the parts list simple and the enclosure consistent from one section to the next.

How does this cage help your facility?
The direct gain is building a secure area quickly using your own maintenance crew rather than scheduling an outside installation, which matters when a storage need appears between projects. Modular construction also means the enclosure can be expanded or reconfigured later instead of rebuilt. Compared with chain link, the welded panel system stays lighter and more open, giving better visibility into the space and easier airflow through it, and the open structure lets existing lighting, HVAC, and fire suppression continue to work as designed rather than requiring changes to accommodate a new enclosure.
