WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire Security Cage, 4-Wall

WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire Security Cage, 4-Wall

The WireCrafters 4-Wall Style 840 RapidWire Security Cage is constructed from robust 10-gauge wire arranged in a 2" square mesh pattern. Each wire is securely welded to the next, so the mesh maintains structural integrity even when modified to accommodate obstructions. This design allows for controlled access while maintaining clear visibility into the property. The open yet secure nature of the wire partitions allows viewing of stored items and the property, optimizes existing lighting, and promotes free circulation for HVAC and fire suppression systems.

The WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire 4-wall security cage is a free-standing enclosure with welded wire partition on all four sides and a door in one of them. It needs no existing walls, so it can be built in open floor space. Sizes are listed as width x depth, from 6'-6" x 6'-4" up to 28'-8" x 28'-8". Stock system heights are 8'-5-1/4", 10'-5-1/4" and 12'-5-1/4". The door is hinged (3' or 4' wide) or sliding (3' to 10' wide). The mesh is 10 gauge wire welded into a 2" x 2" square pattern, set in a 1-1/4" angle frame, and it is the medium duty mesh in the Style 840 system.

Welded mesh is about 25 to 33% lighter than woven mesh at the same panel size, and it holds its shape when openings are cut to fit around columns, pipes or other obstructions. It suits boundaries and traffic control, such as walling off an equipment area, a storage zone or a contractor space. The 2" x 2" opening is wide enough for a hand and forearm to reach through to a latch or to stock near the fence line, so choose the 2" x 1" woven mesh when theft is the concern.

Panels are 4 or 5 ft high and stack to reach the system height, and the same panel sizes serve for walls and ceilings. The system is bolted together with no site welding, and a crew of two or three people is recommended. Choose a 4-wall cage when the enclosure has to stand on its own, and a 1-wall, 2-wall or 3-wall system when existing solid walls can serve as one or more sides.

Selecting the Right Model
◆ Mesh, choose 2" x 2" welded wire for separation and traffic control, such as bulky, low-value or hard-to-move contents, or choose 2" x 1" woven wire when theft or reach-through is the concern
◆ Wall count, a 4-wall system stands on its own with no existing walls, so choose a 1-wall, 2-wall or 3-wall style when solid, full-height walls can serve as one or more sides
◆ Size, the table lists width x depth from 6'-6" x 6'-4" to 28'-8" x 28'-8", so measure the floor area the cage will occupy and pick the closest model
◆ Height, stock heights are 8'-5-1/4", 10'-5-1/4" and 12'-5-1/4", and a full-height or ceiling-capped cage prevents climbing over
◆ Door, hinged doors are 3' or 4' wide with a 7'-3-1/4" opening, while sliding doors run 3' to 10' wide and need a clear wall run beside the opening equal to the door width
◆ Lock, access control comes mainly from the door and the lock, so price the lock and exit hardware early, since options range from key locks to card readers and cost varies by more than ten to one
◆ Machine guarding, Style 840 is not a machine guard, so use a dedicated guarding system where a risk assessment calls for one

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the RapidWire 4-wall security cage?

The RapidWire 4-wall cage is a fully enclosed welded wire enclosure that needs no existing building walls, so it can be placed anywhere on the floor. It uses 10-gauge wire in a 2" x 2" welded pattern with a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" angle frame. CustomMHS carries the full line of WireCrafters RapidWire security cages, backed by the manufacturer's warranty.

When do I need all four walls?

Count the usable building walls where the cage will go. A location in the middle of a warehouse floor has none, so the 4-wall configuration is the only one that works there. It is also the right choice when an adjacent wall exists but is not something you want to depend on, such as a partition wall or one with a door in it. If solid walls cover one, two, or three sides, those configurations cost less.

Can the cage be modified to fit around obstructions?

Yes. Each wire is welded to the next, so the mesh keeps its structural integrity even when panels are modified to accommodate columns, piping, conduit, or equipment. That adaptability is what lets these systems be tailored to rooms of any size or height rather than requiring a clean rectangular footprint.

When should I choose 2" x 1" woven wire instead of this welded mesh?

The two fail differently. Woven mesh is interlocked at every crossing rather than fused, so cutting one strand does not open a hole because the surrounding weave holds the pattern. Welded mesh depends on the weld at each intersection, so breaking a few welds opens a gap faster. Opening size matters as much as the wire: a 1-inch dimension blocks a hand and forearm, so nobody reaches through to a latch, a lock, or inventory just inside the line. A 2" x 2" opening does not.

How does a 4-wall cage help your facility?

A fully enclosed cage gives complete access control over equipment and inventory without dedicating a room to it, so the secure area goes where the floor plan allows rather than where the building happens to have walls. Wire construction preserves what a built room would block, since existing overhead lighting reaches inside, HVAC and fire suppression circulate freely, and contents stay visible for supervision and inventory checks without opening the door. Panels and posts arrive tagged with numbers for assembly, and all erection hardware, including concrete floor anchors, is included, so nothing has to be sourced separately at install.

How difficult is installation?

The panels bolt together cleanly, so most maintenance teams install the system without special tools or equipment. Panels attach to posts using standard hand tools. Because the same panel sizes work for both walls and ceilings, panels stack to reach the required height, which keeps the parts list simple and the enclosure consistent from one section to the next.
