WireCrafters Style 840 Welded Wire Medium Duty RapidWire Cages, 1-Wall, 2-Wall, 3-Wall and 4-Wall

WireCrafters Style 840 Welded Wire Medium Duty Rapid Wire Cage

The WireCrafters Style 840 RapidWire cage is the medium duty welded mesh option in the Style 840 system. The mesh is 10 gauge wire welded into a 2" x 2" square pattern, set in a 1-1/4" angle frame. It comes in four layouts, 1-wall, 2-wall, 3-wall and 4-wall, and the layout is set by how many sides of the enclosure your building already provides. Stock system heights are 8'-5-1/4", 10'-5-1/4" and 12'-5-1/4", with hinged doors 3' or 4' wide and sliding doors 3' to 10' wide.

The WireCrafters Style 840 woven wire partition system builds tool cribs, security cages and storage enclosures from bolt-together panels. The mesh is 10 gauge woven wire in a 2" x 1" rectangular pattern, set in a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" hot-rolled angle frame, with flat steel stiffeners welded behind the mesh on panels longer than 3'-6". Panels bolt to 2" square, 14 gauge steel tube posts with 3/8" hardware, and each post has a 1/4" x 2" x 7" plate welded at the base for anchoring to the floor.

The bolts are placed so they cannot be reached from outside the enclosure, which makes the system harder to tamper with and helps protect inventory, tools and controlled items. The 1" dimension of the mesh also blocks a hand and forearm, so a person outside cannot reach through to a latch, a lock or stock stored near the fence line.

Stock panels are 1 to 10 feet wide in 1-foot steps and 4 or 5 feet high. Panels stack to build enclosures in stock system heights of 8'-5-1/4", 10'-5-1/4" and 12'-5-1/4". Ceiling panels are interchangeable with wall panels, so any layout can be capped. The system is bolted together with no site welding, and a crew of two or three people is recommended.

Product Lines
Woven Style 840 comes in four layouts. The 1-wall system fits between two existing walls and runs 5'-6" to 25'-10" wide, which suits securing aisles and rows of pallet racks. The 2-wall system fits a corner using two existing walls and runs 6'-6" x 6'-4" to 30'-8" x 30'-8". The 3-wall system uses one existing wall as the back and runs 6'-4" x 6'-6" x 6'-4" to 24'-6" x 24'-10" x 24'-6" (depth x width x depth). The 4-wall system stands free on open floor and runs 6'-6" x 6'-4" to 28'-8" x 28'-8".

Selecting the Right Model
◆ Mesh, choose 2" x 1" woven wire when the enclosure holds high-value, portable or controlled items, when stock sits close to the fence line, or when theft is the concern, and choose 2" x 2" welded RapidWire for separation and traffic control
◆ Wall count, a 1-wall, 2-wall or 3-wall system uses one, two or three existing solid, full-height walls as sides, and a 4-wall system stands on its own
◆ Size, measure the walls or floor area the system will occupy and pick the closest model, since each layout lists its own width and depth range
◆ Height, stock heights are 8'-5-1/4", 10'-5-1/4" and 12'-5-1/4", and a full-height or ceiling-capped cage prevents climbing over
◆ Door, hinged doors are 3' or 4' wide with a 7'-3-1/4" opening, double-hinged doors give a 6' or 8' opening, sliding doors run 3' to 10' wide and need a clear wall run beside the opening equal to the door width, and vertical-rise doors are custom sized
◆ Lock, access control comes mainly from the door and the lock, so price the lock and exit hardware early, since options range from key locks to card readers and cost varies by more than ten to one
◆ Machine guarding, Style 840 is not a machine guard, so use a dedicated guarding system where a risk assessment calls for one

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Should I use 2" x 1" woven wire or 2" x 2" welded wire?

Use 2" x 1" woven wire when the enclosure protects high-value, portable, or controlled inventory. Woven mesh is interlocked rather than fused, so cutting a single strand does not open a hole, and the 1-inch opening blocks a hand from reaching through to a lock or to stock stored near the fence line. Use 2" x 2" welded wire when the barrier is separating space rather than securing valuables, such as walling off a storage room or a contractor area. Welded panels install quickly and cost less, but the larger opening allows reach-through and the joints depend on welds. Many facilities run welded wire on the general perimeter and build a woven wire cage inside it for the items that carry real exposure.

What is the RapidWire cage?

The RapidWire cage is WireCrafters Style 840 built from 10-gauge wire welded into a 2" x 2" rectangular mesh, offered as a medium-duty alternative to the heavy-duty woven wire version. It uses the same 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" angle frame and the same 3/8" assembly hardware. CustomMHS carries the full line of WireCrafters wire partitions, backed by the manufacturer's warranty.

How does welded mesh differ from woven mesh?

Both use 10-gauge wire, so the wire thickness is identical. The difference is the pattern and how it is joined: welded mesh uses a 2" x 2" grid with welded intersections, while the heavy-duty woven version uses a tighter 2" x 1" pattern woven together. The woven construction is the more secure of the two, which is why RapidWire is positioned as medium duty and can be substituted where that level of protection is sufficient.

When is medium duty the right choice?

Match the construction to what you are protecting and who has access. Medium duty suits general inventory control, tool cribs in controlled facilities, and storage areas where the goal is limiting casual access rather than defeating a determined attempt. Heavy-duty woven mesh is the appropriate specification for high-value inventory, controlled substances, evidence storage, and anywhere the enclosure is the primary security barrier.

How does a RapidWire cage help your facility?

The practical gain is getting controlled access at a lower cost than heavy-duty construction in areas where that level is not required, which lets a facility secure more areas for the same budget. Wire construction also preserves what a built room would block: existing overhead lighting reaches inside, HVAC and fire suppression circulate freely, and contents stay visible for supervision and inventory checks without opening the door. Since a door with a cylinder key lock, a detailed drawing, and all erection hardware including floor anchors are included with each model, the enclosure goes up without sourcing anything separately.

How difficult is installation?

The panels bolt together cleanly, so most maintenance teams install the system without special tools or equipment. Panels attach to posts using standard hand tools. Because the same panel sizes work for both walls and ceilings, panels stack to reach the required height, which keeps the parts list simple and the enclosure consistent from one section to the next.
