Hallowell 5525 Hi-Tech Bin Shelving | 14 Openings, 18" Wide x 12" High Each

The Hallowell 5525 bin shelving unit provides 14 openings per unit, each 18" wide x 12" high, the largest opening size in the Hallowell Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System series. All 14 openings are uniform in size, making this the correct choice when the stored items are consistent in size and large enough to require the full 18" width. The single opening size across all positions creates a clean, repeatable storage layout. All units are 36" wide x 87" high. Depth options are 12", 18", and 24".

Starter units stand alone or begin a row. Add-on units share a side panel with an adjacent unit to extend the row without duplicating structural components. Six models cover three depths in starter and add-on configurations.

Selecting the Right Depth:

♦ 12" depth, the shallowest option. Suited for items that do not require more than 12" of front-to-back clearance. Minimizes the unit's floor footprint.

♦ 18" depth, the standard depth for most bin shelving applications. Accommodates most boxed parts, containers, and supplies that fit within an 18" wide x 12" high opening.

♦ 24" depth, the deepest option. Suited for larger items that require the additional front-to-back space, or for applications where high per-opening volume is needed.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter unit per row. Add-on units share a side panel with the adjacent unit and cannot stand alone.

♦ Compared to other bin shelving models, the 5525 is the only bin shelving model in this series with all openings 18" wide. Other models in the series use smaller openings (6", 9", or 12" wide) for higher-density small-parts storage. Choose 5525 when all stored items require the full 18" wide opening. Choose a mixed-opening model (5531 through 5535) when inventory includes both large and small items.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Large Hardware and Bulk Supply Storage, stockrooms storing large-format hardware, packaged supplies, and bulk items that exceed the capacity of narrower bin openings use the 5525's 18"-wide openings to provide a defined, labeled position for each large item type.

♦ Maintenance Parts Storage for Medium-Sized Components, maintenance departments storing medium-sized replacement parts, packaged lubricants, and supplies in labeled 18"-wide bin positions, use the 5525 for organized, visible storage where each position holds one category of item.

♦ Distribution Receiving and Staging, receiving areas staging incoming packaged goods, kits, and supplies in labeled bin positions before put-away. Use the 5525's large openings for temporary, organized staging that keeps items visible and separated by category.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Hallowell 5525 Hi-Tech Bin Parts Shelving and how does it help with parts storage
The Hallowell 5525 Hi-Tech Bin Parts Shelving is a modular parts storage system with fourteen dedicated bin openings, each approximately eighteen inches wide and twelve inches high, designed to hold small components and supplies. It organizes stock into clearly defined compartments so workers can see where items are at a glance, reducing search time and improving inventory accuracy. This makes workflows more efficient in warehouses, maintenance rooms, and production areas, where speed and clarity are critical. The shelving supports both standalone setups and larger systems that grow with your needs.
What are starter and adder units and why do they matter for scaling
Starter units are complete, freestanding sections that form the beginning of a shelving run. Adder units attach to starters by sharing a side panel so you can extend storage capacity without duplicating support structures. This modular approach lets you build just what you need now and expand later with minimal waste. It also makes reconfiguring storage layouts simpler as inventory needs change.
How does this shelving support faster picking and inventory accuracy
Each bin opening is a defined slot where a specific SKU can be assigned and clearly labeled, making it easy to locate parts without rifling through mixed totes or piles. The open-face design, combined with the compartment size, maximizes visibility, allowing staff to confirm stock levels at a glance. This reduces picking errors and supports smoother restocking cycles. The result is less downtime and fewer mistakes on the floor.
What kinds of environments and items is this shelving best suited for?
This shelving is ideal for industrial, commercial, and institutional settings where many small parts or components are stored. It handles fasteners, fittings, electrical parts, repair kits, and other small to medium packaged goods that benefit from assigned locations. The adjustable bin dividers let you tailor openings to match inventory mix if sizes change. Workshops, distribution centers, and stockrooms all benefit from the clarity it brings to parts management.
How do you plan a layout and add units?
Start by mapping out where your most frequently accessed parts will go so they are easy to reach for daily picking. Measure the space and plan a run of shelves that fit within the aisles without blocking traffic, then order starter units accordingly. When inventory grows, or new items join your catalog, simply add adder units to extend your rack without redoing the entire layout. That phased growth keeps your storage efficient and cost-effective.
