Husky Pallet Rack Step Beams

Husky Pallet Rack Step Beams

Husky Pallet Rack Step Beams | Heavy-Duty Teardrop Load Support

Husky pallet rack step beams are the horizontal load-bearing members that connect upright frames and create each storage level in a selective pallet rack system. Beams are sold on each storage level individually and require one pair. Capacity ratings shown in the table are for a matched pair of beams under an evenly distributed load.

The step beam profile seats wire decking or crossbars flush in the beam's recessed ledge, keeping the decking stable under load without clips or fasteners. Each beam connects to teardrop uprights using an automatic locking tab that engages on insertion. The Bowlock® safety clip, included with every beam, prevents accidental dislodgement; it cannot be removed without first detaching the beam from the upright and requires no tools. The standard color is orange, pairing well with Husky's green upright frames.

Husky step beams use the standard teardrop hole pattern, making them compatible with most teardrop-style upright frames from Husky and other major rack manufacturers. Eleven models cover five beam lengths (48", 96", 108", 120", 144") and three profile height tiers.

Prices are shown per beam. Order two for each level. Prices are shown by manufacturer model number for direct competitor comparison.

Choosing the Right Step Beam:

Two decisions determine the correct beam: length and profile height/capacity.

Beam length must match the bay width of your racking system. The clear span between uprights is the beam length. Common choices are 96" (8'), 108" (9'), 120" (10'), and 144" (12'). The 48" model (IBX30048) suits single-pallet or specialty applications.

Profile height determines capacity per pair. Three profile heights are available. At the same beam length, a taller profile provides significantly higher capacity because the deeper cross-section resists bending more effectively.

♦ IBX profile: Heights from 3.0" to 4.85". The standard profile for most conventional warehouse pallet rack applications. Multiple capacity options within this profile tier, depending on beam length.

♦ IBN profile: 5.5" height. The medium-heavy profile, offering meaningfully higher capacity than the IBX at the same beam length, for example, the IBN55108 carries 9,100 lbs per pair vs. 5,060 lbs for the IBX43108 at the same 108" length. Select when loads approach or exceed the IBX limit for a given bay width.

♦ IBH profile: 6.0" height. The highest-capacity profile on this page. The IBH60144 carries 8,300 lbs per pair at 144" -- the only model at 144" length that reaches this capacity level.

Where Husky Step Beams Are Commonly Used:

♦ Selective pallet rack systems: The primary application is one beam pair per storage level, creating pallet positions accessible from the aisle by forklift.

♦ Wire decking and cross-bar installations: The step profile's recessed ledge is specifically designed to seat wire decking or structural tube cross bars flush, providing a flat, stable surface for non-palletized goods and carton storage.

♦ Expanding existing teardrop rack installations: The standard teardrop connection allows Husky beams to integrate with most existing teardrop upright frames in a facility, adding beam levels or replacing damaged beams without full system replacement.

♦ High-load-per-level applications: The IBN and IBH profiles extend capacity well beyond what standard step beams provide at the same bay width, making them suited to heavier unit loads, case-pick operations with heavy carton weights, or operations running full-capacity pallet loads on wide bays.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are Husky pallet rack step beams used for?
Husky pallet rack step beams are horizontal load supports that connect upright frames and hold palletized inventory. They form the main shelf structure within a pallet racking system. Step beams are designed to safely carry heavy loads in warehouses and distribution environments. They are essential components for creating strong and organized storage rows.
How does the step beam design improve pallet rack functionality?
Step beams feature a recessed ledge that allows wire decking or steel decking to sit securely in place. This creates a stable storage surface while maintaining open access for pallets and cartons. The step design also helps prevent decking from shifting during loading. It improves both safety and versatility in warehouse storage systems.
Why is teardrop compatibility important for warehouse flexibility?
Teardrop-style connections allow beams to be installed and adjusted quickly without special tools or complex hardware. This makes it easy to change beam heights as inventory sizes and storage needs evolve. Teardrop systems are widely used because they support fast expansion and reconfiguration. They provide long-term flexibility for growing operations.
What types of operations benefit most from heavy-duty pallet rack beams?
Heavy-duty step beams are commonly used in warehouses, fulfillment centers, manufacturing plants, and bulk storage facilities. Any operation handling heavy pallet loads requires robust beam support to ensure safe vertical storage. These beams help maximize space while keeping inventory accessible. They are especially valuable in high-volume storage environments.
How do step beams contribute to safer racking systems?
Strong beams help prevent load failure by evenly supporting pallet weight across the rack structure. When paired with proper decking and upright frames, they create a stable and reliable storage system. This reduces the risk of product collapse or rack damage in busy forklift areas. Safe beam support protects both workers and inventory.
