Husky Pallet Rack Wire Decking

Husky pallet rack wire decking provides an open-mesh shelf surface for pallet rack beam levels, allowing cartons, totes, bins, and loose items to be stored on standard rack positions that would otherwise support only pallets. The open mesh allows sprinkler water to penetrate through to lower levels, supporting fire code compliance in many jurisdictions, an important consideration when installing racks in sprinklered facilities. All panels meet the ANSI MH26.2 standard for uniformly distributed static loads.

Panels are available in three depths (36", 42", 48") and three widths (46", 52", 58"). Two channel configurations are available at most sizes: A3 (three front-to-back support channels) and A4 (four channels). The A4 configuration provides greater load capacity than A3 at the same panel dimensions. Thirteen models cover the depth, width, and channel count combinations available in this lineup.

Choosing the Right Wire Decking Panel:

Three decisions determine the correct panel: depth, width, and channel configuration.

Depth must match the frame depth of your upright. The panel depth should equal the upright frame depth: 36" panels for 36" frames, 42" panels for 42" frames, 48" panels for 48" frames.

The width must match the beam length at your storage level. Note that beam lengths are measured center-to-center, while wire decking width is the actual panel width. Husky step beams use standard widths and the decking widths below are sized to fit the most common bay widths.

Channel configuration (A3 vs. A4): The A4 panel has four front-to-back support channels, compared to three on the A3, delivering higher capacity for the same panel size. At greater depths, capacity per panel decreases; the longer the span the channels must bridge, the lower the rated load. If your application approaches or exceeds the A3 capacity limit at a given depth, select the A4.

Capacity by depth and configuration:

♦ 36" deep panels: A3 panels rated at 3,250 lbs; A4 panels rated at 3,900 lbs.

♦ 42" deep panels: A3 panels rated at 2,610 lbs; A4 panels rated at 3,150 lbs.

♦ 48" deep panels: A3 panels rated at 2,100 lbs; A4 panels rated at 2,630 lbs.

Where Husky Wire Decking Is Commonly Used:

♦ Carton and case storage on pallet rack: Adding wire decking to beam levels converts pallet positions into organized shelf storage for cartons, cases, and non-palletized goods without purchasing separate shelving.

♦ Sprinklered warehouse facilities: The open mesh allows sprinkler water to pass through to lower rack levels, supporting fire code compliance in facilities where solid shelving would impede sprinkler coverage.

♦ Mixed inventory operations: Facilities storing a combination of palletized and non-palletized goods can add wire decking selectively at levels designated for carton or tote storage, leaving other levels open for pallet access.

♦ Safety improvement on existing rack: Installing wire decking on existing pallet rack beam levels prevents products from falling through to lower levels or aisles during picking, restocking, or accidental impact.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Husky pallet rack wire decking used for?

Husky pallet rack wire decking is a durable shelf surface designed to sit on pallet rack beams and support stored inventory. It creates a stable platform for cartons, bins, and non-palletized items. Wire decking also improves safety by reducing the chance of products falling through open beam levels. It is a common upgrade for warehouses and industrial storage facilities.

How does open-mesh decking improve warehouse visibility and airflow?

The open-mesh design allows light to pass through racking systems, making it easier to see stored items at multiple levels. It also improves airflow, which helps support ventilation and fire safety requirements in many warehouses. Unlike solid shelves, mesh decking does not block sprinkler coverage. This design supports safer and more efficient storage environments.

Why is wire decking a durable choice for pallet rack shelf support?

Wire decking is designed for heavy industrial use and resists bending and wear over time. It provides strong support for evenly distributed loads and repeated daily handling. The steel construction holds up well in busy warehouses with frequent forklift activity. This makes it a long-lasting shelving solution for demanding operations.

What types of inventory can be stored on wire decking?

Wire decking is ideal for storing cartons, packaged goods, plastic totes, and smaller items that are not always palletized. It helps create usable shelf space in pallet racking systems for mixed inventory. This improves organization and storage flexibility. Many facilities use wire decking to expand beyond pallet-only storage.

How does wire decking contribute to safer pallet rack systems?

Wire decking reduces the risk of items slipping between beams or falling into aisles below. It also creates a more secure surface for irregular loads or damaged pallets. Improving load stability protects workers, equipment, and stored products. Safety-focused facilities often consider decking an essential part of rack design.
