Hallowell 5529 Hi-Tech Storage Bin Shelving – 78 Openings

hallowell bin shelving                Hallowell 5529 Hi-Tech Storage Bin Shelving

Hallowell 5529 Hi-Tech Bin Shelving | 78 Openings, (66) 6"x6" and (12) 6"x9"

The Hallowell 5529 bin shelving unit provides 78 openings per unit, the highest position count among the single-opening-width models in the Hi-Tech Bin Shelving System series. The layout is (66) openings at 6" wide x 6" high and (12) openings at 6" wide x 9" high. All 78 openings share the same 6" width. The 12 taller 6" x 9" positions are on the bottom two shelves and accommodate items that exceed the 6" opening height. The 66 primary positions at 6" x 6" are the smallest openings available in the Hallowell bin shelving series.

The 5529 provides 44% more positions per unit than the 5528 (78 vs. 54) by reducing the primary opening height from 9" to 6". It is the correct choice when stored items are small enough to fit in 6" x 6" openings, and the maximum SKU positions per unit is the primary requirement. All units are 36" wide x 87" high. Three depth options: 12", 18", and 24".

Selecting the Right Depth:

♦ 12" depth, minimum floor footprint. Suited for the smallest items that fit in a 6" x 6" opening at 12" depth.

♦ 18" depth, standard depth. Accommodates most small parts stored in 6"-wide positions.

♦ 24" depth, maximum depth. For higher per-opening volume or items requiring more front-to-back clearance.

♦ 5529 vs. 5528, choose 5529 when items fit within a 6" x 6" opening, and the maximum position count is needed. Choose 5528 when items require the taller 9" opening height.

♦ 5529 vs. mixed-opening models (5531-5535), the 5529 uses a single 6" width throughout. Mixed-opening models combine multiple opening widths within a single unit. Choose 5529 when all stored items are in the 6"-wide range. Choose a mixed model when items vary significantly in size.

♦ Starter vs. add-on units: Order one starter per row. Add-on units share a side panel and cannot stand alone.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Very High-SKU Small Parts Operations, stockrooms, and parts counters managing the largest variety of distinct small part numbers, fine hardware, screws, pins, clips, inserts, and micro-components use the 5529's 78 positions per unit to assign a dedicated labeled position to each part number without needing multiple units for the same inventory volume.

♦ Electronics Assembly Small-Component Staging, electronics assembly lines staging the largest variety of resistors, capacitors, diodes, connectors, and small electronic components in labeled 6" x 6" positions. Use the 5529 for the highest-density small-component staging in the bin shelving lineup.

♦ Kitting Stations with Maximum Part Variety: kitting operations assembling the highest-variety kits consumer electronics, medical device kits, or industrial assembly kits with many small parts use the 5529 to stage every component in a labeled position at the kitting station within the smallest available unit footprint.

♦ Fine Hardware and Fastener Distribution Pick Faces, distribution operations picking fine hardware orders use the 5529 to create the densest 6"-wide pick face in the series, fitting the most SKUs per linear foot of pick aisle in a high-density small-parts picking environment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Hallowell 5529 Hi-Tech Storage Bin Shelving system?
The Hallowell 5529 Hi-Tech Storage Bin Shelving is a heavy-duty storage solution designed for organizing small parts in industrial and commercial settings. It includes 78 dedicated bin openings to keep parts separated and easy to locate. The shelving is open in front so users can quickly see and pick items without opening doors or drawers. This design supports both visual management and fast access.
How do the 78 bin openings help improve inventory control?
Having 78 individual openings means each part type can have its own dedicated bin, reducing confusion and misplacement. When bins are labeled and organized logically, it becomes easier to conduct cycle counts and restock accurately. This setup also makes it easier to spot when inventory is low before it becomes a problem. Over time, this contributes to smoother operations and fewer emergency orders.
What kinds of parts or businesses benefit most from this shelving?
Businesses with many small components, such as nuts, bolts, fittings, electrical parts, and replacement pieces, will find this shelving especially useful. It also works well in maintenance shops, assembly lines, and supply rooms where frequent access is needed. The bin openings keep items contained but visible, reducing clutter and damage. Any operation that requires organized, high-capacity small-parts storage will benefit.
What is the difference between a Starter Unit and an Add-on Unit for this system?
The Starter Unit is a standalone section you can use to begin a storage run. An Add-on Unit attaches to an existing Starter Unit to extend the line without duplicating side panels. This allows you to build longer rows of shelving in the same footprint as demand grows. Planning with Starter and Add-on units provides flexibility and helps you scale storage more efficiently.
How should you plan your layout and bin configuration for best use?
Place the shelving in an area with good accessibility so workers can pick quickly without obstruction. Place high-use, frequently accessed parts at eye level to reduce bending and reaching. Use clear, consistent labels to help staff find and return parts correctly. Leave room for future expansion so you can add additional units as inventory grows.
