Metro Top Track High Density Shelving System

metro top track system

Metro Top Track High-Density Shelving System | Overhead Track, 48" or 60" Wide

The Metro Top Track high-density shelving system increases storage capacity by up to 50% in the same floor footprint by replacing permanent aisles with a single active aisle that shifts as needed. Mobile shelving units slide along an overhead guide track between two fixed, stationary end units, compressing the row when access is not needed and opening a full aisle when it is. Because the guide track is mounted overhead rather than on the floor, the floor area remains clear of floor-level hardware, making the space easier to clean, allowing utility carts to roll freely in and out of the active aisle, and eliminating tripping hazards associated with floor-mounted track systems. Guide rollers float inside the overhead track to compensate for uneven floor surfaces and maintain smooth operation.

Each system includes two stationary end units and the specified number of 18" or 24" wide mobile sliding carts. Mobile unit capacity is 900 lbs per cart. Two unit widths are available: 48" and 60," and two finishes: Chrome for general dry indoor environments and Rust-Resistant Epoxy for more demanding or moisture-prone applications.

Selection Guide:

♦ System length and mobile cart count, the TT10 configuration includes 2 mobile carts and spans 9'7" total. TT12 includes 3 mobile carts at 11'7". TT14 includes 4 mobile carts, each 18" high, for a total of 13'7". TT16 includes 4 mobile carts, each 24", for a total of 15'7". Select the configuration based on the available floor length and the required number of mobile storage positions.

♦ Unit width: 48" or 60". Choose 48" for applications with narrower bays or where a more compact footprint is needed. Choose 60" for applications requiring more lateral shelf surface per unit. Both widths are available across all four mobile cart count configurations.

♦ Mobile cart width, 18" or 24", the TT10 through TT14 configurations use 18" wide mobile carts. The TT16 configuration uses 24" wide mobile carts, providing deeper storage per mobile position at a longer total system length.

♦ Finish, Chrome is suited to dry, climate-controlled stockrooms, warehouses, and office storage environments. Rust-Resistant Epoxy is suited to humid, washdown, or more aggressive environments where moisture is present.

♦ Mobile unit capacity: Each mobile sliding unit supports 900 lbs. Plan total load distribution across all mobile carts when loading the system.

♦ Floor clearance benefit, because the track is overhead, the floor under and around the system remains clear of track hardware. This simplifies cleaning and allows rolling equipment to enter the active aisle without obstruction from floor rails.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Stockrooms and Supply Rooms with Limited Floor Space: stockrooms and supply rooms where shelving capacity has been maxed out within the available footprint. Use Top Track to recover the wasted space consumed by multiple permanent fixed aisles, often recovering 40% to 50% of the storage area previously lost to aisle space.

♦ Healthcare and Medical Supply Storage, hospital supply rooms, pharmacy back-stock areas, and medical device storage rooms use Top Track for high-density organized storage where space is premium, access to all stored items must be maintained, and floor cleanliness is a priority that benefits from the floor-clear overhead track design.

♦ Industrial Parts and MRO Inventory Rooms, industrial parts rooms, and MRO supply storage areas where inventory has grown beyond existing shelving capacity use Top Track to add storage positions within the existing room footprint without construction or facility modification.

♦ Archive and Records Storage, archive rooms storing file boxes, binders, and records use the compressible aisle design to dramatically increase the number of storage positions per square foot compared to fixed open-aisle shelving, making Top Track a practical alternative to off-site storage for growing document archives.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Metro Top-Track high density chrome shelving system used for?
The Metro Top-Track high density chrome shelving system is designed to maximize storage capacity by eliminating wasted aisle space. It uses a mobile shelving track system that allows shelving units to roll side-to-side for compact, high-density organization. This makes it ideal for facilities needing more storage without expanding floor space.
How does high density shelving improve space utilization?
High density shelving reduces the number of permanent aisles required in a storage area. Shelving rows remain compact until access is needed, creating significantly more usable storage in the same footprint. This is one of the most effective ways to increase capacity in crowded warehouses or stockrooms.
What types of environments benefit from Top-Track shelving systems?
These systems are commonly used in warehouses, healthcare storage areas, laboratories, retail backrooms, and industrial supply rooms. Any facility with limited space and high inventory volume can benefit from mobile high-density shelving. They are especially useful for organized, controlled-access storage applications.
What makes chrome shelving a good choice for industrial storage?
Chrome shelving provides a clean, professional appearance with durability and corrosion resistance in dry indoor environments. It offers strong load support while maintaining visibility and airflow around stored items. Chrome wire shelving is also easy to clean and ideal for organized inventory storage.
Can Metro Top-Track systems be configured for different storage needs?
Yes, Top-Track shelving systems are modular and can be customized for various shelf sizes, layouts, and storage requirements. Units can be configured for parts, supplies, boxed inventory, or archived materials. This flexibility allows facilities to design efficient storage around their workflow.
Where are high density mobile shelving systems most commonly installed?
Metro Top-Track systems are commonly installed in stockrooms, supply closets, medical storage areas, warehouse parts departments, and industrial inventory zones. They are ideal where space is limited but storage demand is high. Any operation focused on maximizing square footage can benefit from high-density shelving solutions.
