Jesco Extra Duty Self-Dumping Formed Base Hoppers

Jesco Extra Duty Self-Dumping Formed Base Hopper

Jesco Extra Duty Self-Dumping Formed Base Hoppers | 4,000-Pound Capacity, Forklift Ready

Jesco extra-duty self-dumping formed base hoppers carry 4,000 pounds, double the 2,000-pound capacity of the Jesco heavy-duty series for facilities handling dense scrap metal, heavy bulk materials, and high-volume waste that would exceed the load limit of a standard hopper. The formed base construction reinforces the fork pocket area for the repeated high-load lift cycles that extra-duty applications demand. The self-dumping mechanism operates the same as the heavy-duty series: the forklift lifts the hopper, the release mechanism activates, the hopper dumps, and the body resets to the locked position when lowered to the ground.

Six models cover 1.0 to 4.0 cubic yards. The extra duty series does not include the small-volume 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2-yard formats available in the heavy duty series -- the minimum size in this lineup is 1.0 cubic yard. For lighter-load applications or tight-space, small-volume collection, see the Jesco heavy-duty series.

Selecting the Right Hopper:

♦ Volume, select based on the volume of material generated at the collection position between forklift pickups. The 1.0-yard (211531) and 1.5-yard (211541) models suit moderate-volume applications where the 4,000-pound capacity is needed for dense material even at smaller volumes. The 2.0-yard (211551) and 2.5-yard (211561) models suit higher-volume production scrap collection. The 3.0-yard (211571) and 4.0-yard (211581) models suit the highest-volume applications where both capacity and large physical volume are required at a single collection point.

♦ 4,000-pound capacity in context, the 4,000-pound limit is the defining spec difference from the heavy-duty series. Dense scrap materials, steel castings, machined metal parts, and heavy forgings can reach 4,000 pounds in a relatively small volume. The extra duty series is the correct selection when the material density, not just the physical volume, drives the capacity requirement. If the material being collected is low-density (packaging, foam, light debris), the heavy-duty series at the same cubic yard may be adequate at a lower price.

♦ Physical dimensions, dimensions at each cubic yard capacity are the same as the equivalent heavy-duty models at matching volumes (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 4.0 yards). The physical footprint and height requirements are therefore identical between the two series at matching sizes. Verify aisle clearance and collection position dimensions against the specific model's size before ordering.

♦ Extra duty vs. heavy duty, both series use formed base construction and the same self-dumping mechanism. The extra-duty series uses heavier-gauge steel construction to achieve a 4,000-pound capacity, vs. 2,000 pounds on the heavy-duty series. Choose the extra duty series when load density is the primary concern. Choose the heavy-duty series when 2,000 pounds is sufficient, and the lower price point is a factor, or when small-volume (1/4 to 1/2 cubic yard) formats are needed.

♦ High-frequency dumping, the formed base construction on the extra duty series is particularly important for applications where the hopper is lifted, transported, and dumped multiple times per shift. The fork pocket area absorbs significant stress on every lift cycle. Extra-duty construction resists the fatigue that would accumulate in this area at high-frequency use over time.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Metal Casting and Foundry Operations, foundries collecting heavy casting sprues, risers, and flash scrap between pours, use the extra duty series to handle the high density and frequent collection cycles of hot metalworking operations without the fork pocket fatigue that lighter hoppers develop under similar conditions.

♦ Heavy Stamping and Forging Operations, stamping and forging facilities where scrap metal drops, trim, and flash are collected after each production run, use the 4,000-pound capacity to handle the weight of dense metal scrap without filling the hopper to a small fraction of its volume before the weight limit is reached.

♦ Steel Service Centers and Fabrication Shops, service centers and fabricators cutting, shearing, and processing steel plate and structural shapes generate dense, heavy offcuts and drops that fill a standard hopper's weight limit quickly. The extra-duty series handles the high per-cubic-foot weight of steel scrap without reaching capacity at low volumes.

♦ High-Volume Manufacturing Production Lines, high-throughput production cells where scrap generation is continuous and forklift pickups occur multiple times per shift, benefit from the extra duty capacity and formed base durability that support repeated daily use without hopper damage or excessive wear.

♦ Recycling and Scrap Processing Facilities, scrap dealers, and recycling operations that collect and move sorted metal scrap, copper, aluminum, and dense recyclables by forklift use the extra duty hoppers for the weight of processed metals that exceeds what standard hoppers can safely carry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Jesco extra duty self-dumping hopper used for?
The Jesco extra duty self-dumping hopper is a heavy-duty forklift hopper designed for collecting and dumping scrap, waste, and bulk materials in industrial environments. It provides an efficient way to handle debris and production byproducts without manual unloading. These hoppers improve housekeeping, safety, and workflow efficiency on the shop floor.
What makes this hopper “extra duty” compared to standard models?
Extra duty models feature reinforced steel construction built to handle heavier loads and more demanding operating conditions. The formed base adds strength and stability during transport and repeated dumping cycles. This makes it a reliable solution for high-volume scrap handling in tough environments.
How does a forklift self-dumping hopper operate?
The hopper is picked up with a forklift and automatically dumps when the release mechanism is engaged. After unloading, it returns to the locked position when lowered back to the ground. This allows operators to dispose of material safely without leaving the forklift.
What types of materials can be handled with this scrap hopper?
These hoppers are commonly used for scrap metal, packaging waste, plastic parts, wood debris, and bulk industrial materials. They are ideal for any facility that generates significant waste or scrap during production. The extra duty design supports heavier and more frequent material disposal.
How do self-dumping hoppers improve workplace efficiency?
Self-dumping hoppers reduce time and labor by allowing bulk waste to be transported and dumped in fewer steps. They eliminate the need for manual unloading and help keep work areas cleaner. Efficient scrap removal supports smoother operations and safer industrial environments.
Where are Jesco extra duty self-dumping hoppers most commonly used?
These hoppers are widely used in manufacturing plants, fabrication shops, warehouses, recycling operations, and distribution centers. They are ideal anywhere heavy scrap loads must be managed regularly. Any high-volume industrial facility can benefit from extra duty forklift dump hoppers.
