MECO Heavy Duty Reel Rack for Wire, Cable, Hose, and Spool Storage

MECO Heavy-Duty Reel Rack

MECO heavy-duty reel racks are built for organized storage and direct dispensing of materials wound on reels or spools, including electrical cable, wire rope, industrial hose, poly rope, chain, and similar coiled materials. Each unit supports reels on horizontal spindle positions, keeping materials elevated, organized, and accessible for on-demand dispensing without moving or unloading the reel from the rack.

Storing reels at floor level or in open bins increases the risk of tangling, unspooling, and damage during retrieval. Reel rack storage keeps each reel in a dedicated, stable position and allows material to be pulled directly from the spool during use, reducing waste and handling time.

The MECO reel rack system is modular: begin each row with a starter unit and extend with add-on units. Three reel width capacities (up to 19", 31", or 43"), two depths (24" and 36"), and three heights (96", 120", and 144") combine across starter and add-on configurations to produce 36 models.

Decoding the Model Number:

MECO reel rack model numbers follow a consistent pattern that encodes all three key dimensions. Using RR338 as an example: RR = Reel Rack; first digit (3) = reel width series (2 = up to 19", 3 = up to 31", 4 = up to 43"); second digit (3) = depth (2 = 24" deep, 3 = 36" deep); third digit (8) = height (8 = 96" high, 10 = 120" high, 12 = 144" high). Models ending in "-A" are add-on units.

Selecting the Right Configuration:

The reel width series is the first selection. Measure the widest reel in the inventory to be stored and select the series whose maximum reel width accommodates it: up to 19" (RR2xx series), up to 31" (RR3xx series), or up to 43" (RR4xx series). Do not mix reel width series within the same row.

♦ Depth (24" or 36") determines how far the rack extends from the aisle face. The 36" depth accommodates larger-diameter reels whose outer diameter would project past the front of a 24" deep unit. Confirm that the largest reel diameter in the inventory fits within the selected depth before ordering.

♦ Height (96", 120", or 144") determines the number of reel levels and the overall rack height relative to ceiling clearance. Taller units provide more vertical storage positions. Confirm available ceiling height and any sprinkler or overhead obstruction clearances before selecting.

♦ Use a starter unit to begin each row. Use add-on units to extend the row. The width difference between starter and add-on units (typically 4") reflects the shared upright at the junction between adjacent bays.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Electrical Contractors and Distributors: Storage and dispensing of electrical cable reels at supply houses, contractor yards, and job staging areas where multiple cable types and gauges are kept in organized, labeled reel positions for pull-to-order fulfillment.

♦ Industrial Hose and Fluid Distribution: Facilities storing hydraulic hose, air hose, water hose, and chemical transfer hose on reels adjacent to fabrication or assembly areas, dispensing cut lengths directly from the reel without removing it from the rack.

♦ Wire and Cable Manufacturing Support: Production-floor-adjacent storage of wire rope, rigging cable, and specialty conductor spools staged near assembly or packaging operations requiring on-demand access to multiple spool types.

♦ MRO and Maintenance Departments: Maintenance facilities storing wire rope, chain, cable, and hose on dedicated reel positions to prevent tangling and material contamination and to maintain accurate inventory of remaining lengths on each spool.

♦ Marine, Rigging, and Safety Equipment Suppliers: Storage of rope, wire rope, and safety line reels at supply and distribution facilities where reel weight, diameter, and length variety require organized, capacity-rated storage positions.

♦ Utilities and Communications Infrastructure: Storage of fiber-optic cable, coaxial cable, and utility wire reels at staging facilities and field yards, where reels must be kept organized, protected from ground contact, and accessible for rapid deployment.
