Parent Metal Welded Visual Storage Cabinet

Parent Metal Welded Visual Storage Cabinet

Parent Metal Welded Visual Storage Cabinets | Clear Acrylic Door Panels, All-Welded Steel

Parent Metal welded visual storage cabinets offer the same all-welded steel construction and full-height piano-hinge door design as the standard Parent Metal lineup, with one addition: Shatter-resistant acrylic panels in the 16-gauge doors, allowing contents to be seen without opening the cabinet. Inventory can be checked, stock levels confirmed, and items located at a glance through the clear acrylic panels, while the 3-point locking bars keep everything secured against the frame at three points simultaneously.

At 200 pounds per shelf across five shelf openings, these are general-purpose industrial storage cabinets suited to tools, supplies, and equipment that do not require the higher load capacities of the heavier-gauge alternatives in the lineup. Both models are 36" wide and 72" high. The selection variable is depth: 18" (172-SGD) or 24" (272-SGD). Both ships are fully assembled.

Models and Specifications:

♦ 172-SGD: 36" wide x 18" deep x 72" high. 5 shelf openings. 200 pounds per shelf. Shatterproof acrylic door panels. 3-point locking bars. Ships assembled.

♦ 272-SGD: 36" wide x 24" deep x 72" high. 5 shelf openings. 200 pounds per shelf. Shatterproof acrylic door panels. 3-point locking bars. Ships assembled.

Selecting the Right Model:

♦ Depth, 18" vs. 24": The 18"-deep 172-SGD suits positions where front-to-back clearance is limited and items being stored fit within the shallower interior. The 24"-deep 272-SGD provides more shelf interior for deeper containers, larger supplies, and equipment that needs additional front-to-back room. Both models are identical in width, height, shelf count, shelf capacity, door construction, and locking system.

♦ 200 pounds per shelf in context: The 200-pound rating is appropriate for general industrial supplies, hand tools, parts bins, boxed consumables, and equipment that does not approach the capacity limit. For heavier tooling, dies, or dense parts assortments requiring 1,000 pounds per shelf or more, the welded cabinets from Pucel, Jamco, or Strong Hold are the appropriate alternatives. The visual cabinet format is a visibility-focused choice, not a high-capacity one.

♦ Acrylic panels vs. polycarbonate (Hallowell Safety View): The Parent Metal visual cabinet uses Shatter-resistant acrylic panels. The Hallowell DuraTough Safety View uses polycarbonate panels. Acrylic is generally more scratch-resistant and optically clearer than polycarbonate, while polycarbonate provides higher impact resistance. For most indoor industrial environments, acrylic provides adequate performance. In applications with significant impact risk, verify with the manufacturer before specifying either material.

♦ Visual cabinet vs. standard Parent Metal all-welded: The standard Parent Metal all-welded cabinet (172-S, 272-S series) uses solid steel doors and is available in a wider range of heights (42", 72", 78") and shelf capacity tiers (200 and 400 pounds). The visual models are 72" height only and 200 pounds per shelf. Choose the visual model when content visibility is a requirement; choose the standard model when it is not.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Supply Rooms with Frequent Restocking: Workers and supply coordinators can confirm at a glance whether a cabinet needs restocking without opening it, reducing the number of door cycles and making restocking rounds faster and more efficient.

♦ Tool Storage with Shift-Change Audits: A visible tool inventory simplifies shift-change accountability checks. At the end of a shift, the outgoing and incoming teams can both see whether the cabinet contains what it should without unlocking and opening every door.

♦ Maintenance Rooms with Multiple Users: In shared maintenance rooms where multiple technicians access the same cabinet, the visible contents reduce unnecessary door openings and help workers quickly confirm whether the item they need is in the cabinet before approaching it.

♦ Compliance and Inspection Environments: Facilities subject to routine inspections of stored supplies, chemicals, or controlled items can allow inspectors to verify cabinet contents through the acrylic panels without unlocking the cabinet during the inspection.

♦ Production Support and Kanban Supply Points: Cabinets positioned at production cells or assembly areas where visual stock level confirmation is used as a trigger for replenishment benefit from clear door panels that make empty shelf positions visible from the production floor without requiring the cabinet to be opened.

♦ Administrative and Light Industrial Environments: Areas where a professional-looking, clearly organized locked storage cabinet is needed for supplies, documents, and equipment, and where the clear door panels reinforce an organized appearance without requiring labels or signage to indicate what is stored inside.
