Rousseau 24" R-Series Modular Drawer Carts | Mobile Industrial Tool Storage, 400 lb Drawers

Rousseau 24" R-Series modular drawer carts bring the R-Series 400 lb per drawer capacity and full-extension slide construction to a mobile platform. Where the R-Series floor cabinets stay in one position, these carts roll to the point of use to the machine being set up, to the vehicle being serviced, to the cell being supported, then stay put while work is underway, and move again when the job is done.

The 24" wide format keeps these carts narrow enough to navigate between machines and through aisles without requiring wide clearances, while still delivering a meaningful number of organized drawer positions. Two depths are available: 21" (R5BCD) and 27" (R5BCG) across four cart heights (33-1/4" to 43-1/4") with 3 to 7 drawers per cart. Drawer heights range from 3" to 12". Most configurations are available with or without partitions. All carts are manufactured in North America.

Selecting the Right Cart:

♦ Depth -- 21" (R5BCD) vs. 27" (R5BCG): The 21" depth keeps the cart footprint compact for tight aisles and between-machine navigation. The 27" depth provides additional drawer interior space for longer tools and items that need more front-to-back clearance. Both depths roll equally well -- depth selection is driven by what the drawer interior needs to hold, not by mobility.
♦ Cart height and drawer count: The 33-1/4" height (2801/2802/2803/2804/2805/2806 series) provides 3 to 4 drawers in the most compact cart profile. The 35-1/4" height (3051/3052/3053/3054/3055/3056 series) reaches 5 to 6 drawers. The 39-1/4" height (3401/3402 series) offers 5 drawers in a mid-height cart that stays below most workbench-height surfaces. The 43-1/4" height (3851/3852 series) is the tallest option, with 7 drawers and the most storage per cart footprint.
♦ Drawer configuration: Configurations with uniform drawer heights; four 6" drawers; five 6" drawers with two 4" drawers; and six drawers with a 3"/4"/8" mix suit inventories where items fall into consistent size groups. Mixed-height configurations, one 3" over two 6" over one 9", or one of each from 3" to 8", suit working sets where items range widely in size, and each needs its own dedicated drawer position without splitting the set across multiple carts or cabinets.
♦ Partitions: Models marked "Yes" include drawer divider partitions. Models marked "No" have open drawer interiors.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ CNC and Machining Setup: Rolling the setup cart to each machine at the start of a production run, carrying the toolholders, inserts, collets, and gauges needed for that program in organized drawer positions that match the setup sheet, then rolling to the next machine at changeover.
♦ Vehicle and Fleet Service: Bringing organized tool and parts storage directly to the vehicle being serviced rather than making multiple trips to a stationary tool crib, with the cart staying at the bay until the job is complete.
♦ Maintenance and Repair Operations: Moving a dedicated maintenance cart to the equipment being serviced and carrying the tools, spare parts, and measurement equipment for that specific repair reduces travel time and the risk of leaving tools behind at the job site.
♦ Assembly and Production Support: Staging a cart adjacent to an assembly position at the start of a production order, stocked with the specific fasteners, components, and tools for that assembly, then cleared and restocked for the next order.
♦ Tool Crib Dispensing: Serving as a mobile dispensing unit that brings tools from a central tool crib to a job site or work area within the facility, allowing tools to be checked out and transported to the point of use in an organized, secure format.
♦ Quality and Inspection: Transporting gauges, fixtures, and inspection equipment between measurement points and CMM stations without carrying individual items by hand, keeping the full inspection kit together in a mobile, organized unit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Rousseau 24" R-Series modular drawer cart?
The 24" R-Series cart brings the R-Series 400 pound per drawer capacity and full-extension slide construction to a mobile platform. Where R-Series floor cabinets stay in one position, these carts roll to the point of use, stay put while work is underway, and move again when the job is done. All carts are manufactured in North America. CustomMHS is an authorized Rousseau distributor, and all purchases include the manufacturer's factory warranty.
Why choose the 24" width?
The narrow format navigates between machines and through aisles without requiring wide clearances, which is what determines whether a cart actually gets used or ends up parked somewhere convenient. Wider carts hold more but need more room to maneuver, so in tight production areas, the 24" width is the one that reaches the work.
What is the difference between the 21" and 27" depths?
The 21" depth, model prefix R5BCD, keeps the footprint compact for tight aisles and between-machine navigation. The 27" depth, prefix R5BCG, gives more drawer interior space for longer tools and items needing front-to-back clearance. Both depths roll equally well, so the choice is driven by what the drawer interior has to hold rather than by mobility.
What heights and drawer counts are available?
Four heights. The 33-1/4" height gives 3 to 4 drawers in the most compact profile. The 35-1/4" height reaches 5 to 6 drawers. The 39-1/4" height offers 5 drawers while staying below most workbench surfaces. The 43-1/4" height is the tallest at 7 drawers and the most storage per cart footprint. Drawer heights across the line range from 3" to 12".
Should I choose uniform or mixed drawer heights?
Uniform configurations, such as four 6" drawers or five 6" drawers with two 4" drawers, suit inventories where items fall into consistent size groups. Mixed-height configurations, such as one 3" over two 6" over one 9", suit working sets where items range widely in size and each needs its own dedicated position without splitting the set across multiple carts.
How does the 24" cart help your facility?
The gain is eliminating trips back to a fixed tool location, which is where maintenance and setup time quietly disappears. In CNC work, the cart rolls to each machine at the start of a run carrying the toolholders, inserts, collets, and gauges that match the setup sheet, then moves to the next machine at changeover. In fleet service, it goes to the bay and stays until the job is done. In inspection work, gauges and fixtures travel between measurement points and CMM stations as one kit rather than being carried by hand.
