What are Akro-Mils Straight Wall Plastic Containers used for?

Akro-Mils Straight Wall Plastic Containers are stackable totes used for storage, handling, and transport. Their straight wall design helps facilities use more space on pallets, racks, and trailers. These containers are often used where corrugated boxes wear out too quickly. Common applications include warehousing, manufacturing, distribution, order picking, and inventory transfer.

When should you use solid side straight wall containers?

Solid side straight wall containers are useful when products need more protection from dust, dirt, or small debris. The smooth interior helps make cleaning easier between uses. Solid wall totes are often used for packaged goods, parts, supplies, and items that need better containment. They also help keep small pieces from falling through the sides during handling.

When should you use mesh side straight wall containers?

Mesh side straight wall containers are a practical choice when airflow and visibility matter. The open wall design helps workers see contents without opening or moving the tote. Mesh containers can also support ventilation for items that should not stay sealed inside a closed container. Typical uses include parts storage, produce handling, returns processing, and fast-moving warehouse inventory.

How do straight wall stackable totes help improve facility efficiency?

Straight-wall stackable totes help improve space utilization by reducing gaps between containers. Their consistent footprint supports stable stacking in storage, staging, and shipping areas. This can help facilities fit more product on pallets and inside trailers. Better load density can reduce handling steps and support a more organized material flow.

What key features should buyers look for in straight wall plastic containers?

Buyers should look for reinforced stacking rims, durable plastic construction, and comfortable hand holes. These features help support repeated handling in busy industrial and distribution environments. Straight wall plastic containers also help create consistent load patterns for palletizing and storage. Solid or mesh options allow facilities to choose the right container for their products and workflow.

The Akro-Mils 37678 is a straight wall container with mesh sides and a solid base, measuring 23-3/4" long x 15-3/4" wide x 8-1/4" tall on the outside. It has a rated load of 83 pounds per container and is sold in cartons of 4 in gray.

Straight wall containers have vertical sides instead of tapered ones, so they use the full footprint from bottom to top. That gives you more usable volume than a stack and nest container of the same size, and it lets them cube efficiently on pallets and in trucks. The trade-off is that they do not nest, so they take the same space empty as full.

The mesh sides have an open 0.72 x 0.9 pattern for visibility and airflow, while the solid base holds small items and liquids that a mesh base would let through. The 37678 also has open handles on all four sides, 1" wide stacking rims and external ribbing for strength. Its 83 pound rating is higher than the all-mesh 37608, which is rated for 45 pounds in the same size.

♦ Ordering a quantity of 1 provides 4 containers

♦ Stacking capacity: 415 pounds

Selecting the Right Straight Wall Container
◆ Weight, check that your heaviest load stays at or under 83 pounds per container, and that the bottom container in a stack can carry the weight above it, up to 415 pounds
◆ Fit, compare your parts to the 22" x 14" x 8" inside dimensions, since the inside is smaller than the outside
◆ Base, the solid base holds small parts and drips that would fall through the all-mesh 37608, while the mesh sides still give airflow
◆ Part size, the side mesh openings are 0.72 x 0.9, so small parts can still pass through the sides if they are piled high
◆ Nesting, straight wall containers do not nest, so choose a stack and nest container if empty storage space matters
◆ Temperature, the distributor listing rates the container for about -20 to 140 F, so check this against your environment
