Buying Guide of the Week: Bulk Containers
Is load capacity the same as stacking capacity?
No, and mixing them up is how stacks fail. Load capacity is what goes inside one container. Stacking capacity is what it can carry on top, and that's what limits how high you stack.
How much does a collapsible container really save?
One published example: 144 upright wire bins fit on a 53-foot trailer, versus 324 collapsed. That's 2.25 times as many containers per load on the empty return trip.
Is a taller bulk container stronger?
Often the opposite. In one 48" x 45" family, the 25" and 34" models are rated 2,500 lbs while the 39" and taller models are rated 2,000 lbs.
Which footprint should I choose?
Let your pallets and customers decide. 48" x 45" is the automotive standard; 48" x 40" matches the grocery pallet used in food and retail distribution.
The full guide also covers sizing height by product density, plastic vs sheet metal vs wire, drop doors vs top discharge, food-grade containers, and how to stack safely.
