Dollies and Hand Trucks

Dollies & Hand Trucks, Steel, Plastic & Cylinder Configurations

Dollies and hand trucks handle the shortest, most frequent moves in a facility: repositioning boxes, equipment, pallets, and cylinders without powered equipment. This page groups compact dollies, pallet stands, and dedicated hand, drum, and cylinder trucks together.

Models and Specifications:

♦ Dollies, Steel & Plastic. Compact, maneuverable support for moving boxes and equipment.
♦ Pallet Stands. Raises pallets to a comfortable working height.
♦ Hand, Drum & Cylinder Trucks. Safely moves heavy loads without powered equipment.
♦ MECO Cylinder Trucks. Rugged steel construction for safe, stable cylinder transport.
♦ Little Giant Cylinder Trucks. Safely transports gas cylinders with secure chain restraints.

Selecting the Right Model:

♦ Material handled: choose a general Dolly for boxes and equipment, or a dedicated Cylinder Truck for compressed gas cylinders.
♦ Working height: add a Pallet Stand when a pallet needs to sit at a comfortable working height rather than the floor.
♦ Brand fit: choose MECO or Little Giant cylinder trucks based on specific dimensions and configuration needs.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Warehouses and Shipping Areas, dollies provide quick, maneuverable support for boxes and equipment.
♦ Workstations, pallet stands raise loads to a comfortable working height.
♦ Manufacturing and Welding Facilities: cylinder trucks support safe daily gas cylinder transport.
♦ Facilities Without Forklift Access, hand and drum trucks support manual material movement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between a dolly and a hand truck?
A dolly is a low wheeled platform the load sits on, so an item can be rolled across the floor while staying upright and level. A hand truck has an upright frame and handle, so the operator tilts the load back and balances it on two wheels to move it. Dollies suit boxes and equipment that should stay flat, while hand trucks suit stacked or tall loads that can be tipped. Should I choose steel or plastic dollies?
Steel handles heavier loads and rougher use, which makes it the practical choice for equipment and dense material in shipping and production areas. Plastic resists corrosion in wet or chemically exposed areas where a steel dolly would rust over time, and it is lighter for the operator to reposition when empty. In dry indoor use with heavy loads, steel is usually the more economical option.
What does a pallet stand do?
A pallet stand raises a pallet off the floor to a comfortable working height, so an operator picks from or loads onto it without bending to ground level. That matters at workstations where a pallet sits for an extended period and gets accessed repeatedly, since the difference between reaching down to the floor and reaching to waist height repeats with every item handled.
Why do cylinders need a dedicated truck?
A compressed gas cylinder is tall, heavy, and top-heavy, and if it falls it can shear its valve and vent under pressure. Cylinder trucks are built around that risk, with a frame that cradles the cylinder and, on the Little Giant model, chain restraints that hold it in place during transport. MECO cylinder trucks use rugged steel construction for the same purpose. A general-purpose hand truck does not secure a cylinder properly.
How do dollies and hand trucks help your facility?
These cover the short, frequent moves that happen dozens of times a day and rarely justify powered equipment, so they keep material flowing without tying up a forklift or waiting for one to become available. That matters most in facilities without forklift access at all, where manual equipment is the only option for moving anything heavy. Putting a load on wheels also removes the carrying that people otherwise do by hand, which is where back strain accumulates in shipping and receiving work. And pallet stands address a related problem at workstations, raising the pallet so repeated picking happens at a workable height rather than at floor level.
