MetroMax Polymer Shelving System

MetroMax Polymer Shelving

Plastic shelving from Metro is made from advanced polymers to be just as strong and durable as metal and wire shelving, with several advantages over wire shelving. Plastic shelving will not rust or corrode, making it the best option for damp or wet environments, such as a walk-in cooler or freezer in a commercial restaurant kitchen.

All plastic shelves from Metro feature removable shelf mats, available in solid and vented grid versions, for fast, easy clean-up. These mats also have a smooth surface, making them ideal for storage of blue-wrapped sterile packages in hospitals and other medical facilities. Plastic shelving can be manufactured as antimicrobial, infused during production with an agent that inhibits the growth of mildew, mold, bacteria, and fungus that can cause stains and odors.

In addition to standard plastic shelving, accessories such as ledges, dividers, baskets, dish racks, and more are available to help you build a custom plastic shelving solution that fits your specific needs. The MetroMax Storage System consists of interchangeable shelves and posts across the i, 4, and Q series, so check the series designation for compatibility when adding accessories.

Selecting the Right Model:

♦ Series: MetroMax I offers the highest shelf capacity and cleanability with a lifetime warranty; MetroMax 4 balances capacity and cost; and MetroMax Q offers a more economical option with a 20-year warranty.
♦ Shelf type: choose Open Grid for ventilation and drainage, or Solid Grid for spill containment and a smooth, easy-to-wipe surface.
♦ Height: choose from approximately 62" up to 74" based on the vertical storage space available.

Where Commonly Used:

♦ Walk-In Coolers and Freezers: corrosion-proof construction withstands damp, cold commercial kitchen environments.
♦ Hospitals and Medical Facilities: The smooth mat surface suits the storage of blue-wrapped sterile packages.
♦ Wet and Washdown Areas: plastic shelving resists rust and corrosion where metal shelving would degrade.
♦ Custom Storage Configurations, interchangeable accessories, and tailored shelving solutions across all three series.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is MetroMax polymer shelving?
MetroMax polymer shelving is a plastic shelving system built from advanced polymers that match the strength and durability of metal and wire shelving without the risk of rust or corrosion. Every shelf uses removable mats that lift out for cleaning, available in solid and vented grid versions. CustomMHS carries the full line of Metro MetroMax polymer shelving, backed by the manufacturer's warranty.
What is the difference between MetroMax i, 4, and Q?
The three series differ in performance, price, and warranty coverage. MetroMax i offers the highest shelf capacity and cleanability and carries a lifetime corrosion warranty. MetroMax 4 balances capacity and cost and also carries a lifetime corrosion warranty. MetroMax Q is the more economical option with a 20-year corrosion warranty. Shelves and posts are interchangeable across all three series, so check the series designation when adding accessories to an existing unit.
Should I choose open grid or solid grid shelves?
Open grid shelves allow air to move through and let liquid drain rather than pool, which suits walk-in coolers, produce storage, and any area where ventilation helps. Solid grid shelves contain spills and give a smooth surface that wipes clean, which suits areas where a leak on an upper shelf would contaminate what sits below. Some MetroMax 4 configurations combine both, with four open grid shelves and one solid grid shelf in the same unit.
Why choose polymer shelving over wire or steel?
Corrosion resistance is the deciding factor in most cases. Wire and steel shelving degrade in damp, cold, and washdown environments, while polymer will not rust regardless of moisture exposure. Polymer can also be manufactured with an antimicrobial agent infused during production, which inhibits mildew, mold, bacteria, and fungus growth that causes stains and odors. In dry environments with no sanitation requirement, steel or wire shelving is usually the more economical choice.
How does polymer shelving help your facility?
In commercial kitchens, walk-in coolers, and freezers, corrosion-proof construction removes the replacement cycle that comes with rusting metal shelving in constantly damp conditions. Removable shelf mats speed up cleaning because staff can lift a mat out and wash it rather than scrubbing a fixed surface in place, which makes thorough sanitation more likely to actually happen on schedule. In hospitals and medical facilities, the smooth mat surface suits blue-wrapped sterile package storage, where a rough or abrasive surface would risk compromising the wrap. Accessories including ledges, dividers, baskets, and dish racks let you build the configuration around what you store rather than adapting your storage to a fixed shelf layout.
